Can't wait to take a look tomorrow at the 'business' day!!

First impressions, I won't be chopping in my '05 LCR in a hurry. Will wait till I see it in the metal - maybe hold on for a more lairy version in a year or so....

My problem with it is that it's just a blown up version of the Ibiza... And it's not 4wd.

But you know what my biggest problem with the new Leon Cupra is... You have to deal with a Seat Dealer... None of the Dealers around Reading are that good so you end up with a car and no backup. Shame but true :(

good point, I remember Emmer Green Garage being truly pathetic.
Don't live in Reading anymore, and found a much more helpfull dealer (Spur Garage in Hampton Court)

Agree, I'll make up my mind once I see it n the flesh on Friday. Was positively surprised with the FR at the dealer. So I don't think the Cupra will disappoint too much, once you've got it in front of you, even if it's the same exterior as the FR. We'll see...

Exactly Syphon, bring it on, having driven a new FR, I can say with undoubted fact, it hands the old Leon its arse on a plate, straight out of the box, its a better equiped , better handling motorcar.

And having owned two now, im fairly qualified to say that.

To be fair Z, you'd of bought one regardless ;) And yes, it should be better handling 'out of the box' because both the LC and LCR sucked ass as stock by a long way.. As for equipment, what will I get that I don't have now? DSG? Is that it?

dangel, you've spent probably £3000+ modifying your leon

all the kit you have bought extra is now standard

i would call that progress wouldnt you?

Personally doesn't do it for me so far, I'll wait to see one in the flesh at the motor show however before I make a final judgement on it

Personally I'm with the crowd that wanted something more agressive to distinguish it from the FR. And I still think the new Leon shape looks like a bread van  which doesn't help matters

Can't see any reason to change as yet though :(

Yes, but comparing a 7 year old (at least) car design to a brand new one and then saying that the new one handles much better is a bit pointless - they would really have to mess up for it to not handle better. I think what the 'we dont like it group' is really trying to get at is that, handling aside, the new car doesn't really give us the same buzz as the older model did.

Having said that, the new pictures (Seat press pack and m0rks) give me a better impression of the Cupra and I have to admit I do find it a bit more pleasing to the eye. It sill hasn't got the 'it' factor for me though :(

1100 quid on wheels/tyres, 750 on brakes, 400 on a chip.. Sold my old wheels tyres to Kam (so knock a few hundred off) Not quite that bad - more like under 2k :D
But really that's missing the point - my question will I gain 10,000ukps worth of performance by buying the new one? And could my money be spent better elsewhere?

Better yet something to make it look different from the Altea and Toledo as well ;) Ok, not realistic at this stage but SEAT made a major design boo-boo constructing three models from the same template (I think I read their new designer critising that very approach in autocar). And yes, the new Leon is very 'mpv' - like the old CTR was (and look how shocking the new design for that car is - far far more interesting).

suspension too ;)

for £18k on a new car, i think its a hot hatch bargain

s'up to you to make your mind up whether you think its worth it for a new car, i think the chassis will be a massive upgrade over the mk4 base

when you say 10k's worth of performance, what do you mean?

20vtbob, if you sit inside the new leon its a much better place to be, i think the marque is going the right way with the styling (toledo aside), i didnt like the mk4 ibiza shape and that has grown on me quite a bit, as you say seeing is believing and in the flesh its a different proposition

Doh! How quickly we forget (well me, not the missus).. But hey, i'm gonna spend money on any car I own (as are most on here!) and i paid 13.5k upfront for the old car (with all the options - winter pack, ESP, electric leather etc) - this is looking like 18-19k to me..

18 or 19k? Is DSG standard?

I'm not denying the chassis is better but where's the killer new feature? 4Wd? No. Trick diff? No..

In my terms i'm thinking about how much it's going to cost me to chop and change and what I get for my money. 10k for a better chassis ain't a big enough seller.

I like the seating position in the new Leon but the interior is naff - it feels decidely cheap compared to the old car. I didn't like the new Ibiza as much as the old either (and don't get me started on the interior of that car). The Altea - great seats but a dash made by fisher price (again). If they'd only launched a leon/toledo it would of been more distinctive - but the altea muddies the waters further to my mind.
