lol :) Hey, i'm just being realistic - i've always been the sort of guy to look past the badge and judge something on it's own merits. It's why I bought my Leon in the first place - for the price i paid it's a cracking car and the fact that both you and I still own one is a testament to just that.

I think my points are valid - it is certainly a more expensive car, less distinctive and isn't perhaps the evolution some of us (not just me!) were hoping for. If it suits you down to the ground then all well and good m8 - i've no problem with that - but I should be able to be honest about my own assessment of it regardless. So ner ner ner ner ner :)

Im not going to be owning one for much longer though ;) Time to trade in and trade up. But considering there is such a good market still for Cupra R's, i should get top dollar for mine. :)

And i also have the right to say your wrong ;)

Have they got the bonnet up M0rk?

To those of you expecting 4wd - get real, besides; it keeps the car "cheap" and "light" so I wouldn't really want it.

To those of you expecting fins, flared arches and other sticky out bits, again - get real, besides; it keeps the car "cheap". If you want those things, get the aero kit. Not everyone likes those things or wants to pay for them, that's why the the aero kit is an option.

Oh, and - I havent seen the design/concept brief, but I can't imagine it said "The mkII Cupra should be a step forward, but be priced as to make the difference between Timbo's current Leon and a new one less than his depreciation (minus the resale value of his mods)".

Oh dear god - how else am I supposed to evaluate a new car? Against someone else's? I see we've all matured well on here over the years :funk:

The Cupra R had optional Brembo's in Europe, and this is the European launch, i'll wait for SEAT UK's take on it, before i complain about the pricing.

Nope, the Cupra R had Brembos as standard. I know, I bought mine in Europe.
The options were the volumetric alarm, the sat nav and the Recaro seats (possibly metallic paint as well).

Let's see if the UK spec includes Brembos as standard.

Fact is tim you don't like being disagreed with, and your tone im afraid does come across on the forum, as apparently werey stupid if we even consider buying one.

Im not sure what God has to do with either, does it come with an optional altar! :p

I'm not tyring to being arsey, it's just my opinion in terms of the shape. I didn't say it was tall did I?

The previous Civic was the same sort of design and that discounted it from my options when I bought the LCR just over 3 years ago

And the new Leon does look similar to the Altea (only lower or course)

I was like you when I first saw the pictures of the new Leon a few months ago. I have to say it looks much better in the flesh, especially the FR. Go and see it for real, you might change your mind :D.

...which is the point of a forum isn't it? I haven't been on here a while but it used to be a place where you could discuss the ups AND downs of SEATs without it becoming a complete mud slinging match (well, aside from when the LCR forum got dropped..). Or maybe it's the drugs

Nope they weren't standard. you could probably import a UK spec, but all left hookers were optional 17" 18" wheels and Brembo brakes.

I posted the press release in 2001-2002, don't compare European spec to UK spec, its nearly always different.

 Can't see it that way Z - and you should know me better - and neither have I said anyone's stupid in buying one. I'm mystified where you've got that impression - aside from me posting my own views on the cons of the new car???

I've noted from various places that it doesn't photo well so I'll be heading down to Excel at some point over the next week to check it out in the flesh

Just got a mail shot from my dealer inviting me to check out the FR so I'll have a look at that too and see what I think. I'm sure the same will follow for the Cupra in due course

Hopefully it'll look better in Black

Wow, I think you're right. I've just read an article from 2002 confirming this. I was never made aware of it when I bought it.

It's all in Spanish but you're right.

Namely " (aún más impresionante es el equipo de ruedas opcional, con llantas de 18 pulgadas y discos de freno sobredimensionados con pinzas Brembo de 4 bombines pintadas en rojo)."

Translation "even more impressive is the set of wheels as an option, with 18 inches rims and extra large Brembo breaks with 4 pistons and red calipers."

Let's hope the UK spec will be up to the expectations.

I'd be very interested of your opinion (as I think we agree?) once you have seen it in real life. Does anyone have an idea when dealers might get one? I can't make the motor show :(

I would imagine the dealers won't have any on display until the launch at the end of this year or the beginning of next. The FR didn't appear at dealers until a couple of weeks ago and was officially launched last weekend.

Not the best, because of the lighting, but you can see the reddish metallic fleck in the Black colour, looks alright, still not sure if id go for black though.
Hmm, not sure the plastic panel in front of the windscreen does it any favours on the black car. I was surprised when I saw that on the FR at the weekend.
