Hello, I'm a new member and live in Spain. I've joined because I'm ordering a new Formentor and wanted advice on which model to go for. The car tax in Spain is weird as it's calculated locally and in my area, high emissions and power outputs are very heavily penalised. I have an appointment at the local Cupra dealer this Friday and have to decide which model to go for, it's a choice between the 1.5 etsi 150 cv, the 1.5 tsi e-hybrid 204 cv or the 2.0 tsi 204 cv all with dsg. Although now in my seventies, I am used to having cars with good performance, my current car is a BMW 118D (mapped to 190 bhp) so wouldn't want to be disappointed. Your thoughts welcome.

You've got a BMW 118D remapped to 190PS with presumably an appropriate amount (shed loads) of torque. I had a 2.0TDI 140PS Skoda Yeti for ten years; but it was remapped and some to c. 185-190PS. Even with my 300PS Ateca VZ whilst it's clearly got more PS it's only about the same torque.
I think you'll find the 1.5TSI 150PS anaemic by comparison.
The comparable Formentor has to be the 2.0Tsi 204PS, although you'll be down on torque from what you're used to.
The 1.5 TSI e-hybrid 204PS, personally, I'd avoid purely on the basis of EVO's Road Test of the same powertrain in the Terramar, suggesting that the transition on / off Hybrid was quite jerky.
Final point, and I'm biased here, but why select the Formentor as a Model? Have you considered an Ateca, although I guess you local tax on high emissions and power outputs being very heavily penalised weighs against it?

Thanks Guy, a very thoughtful and useful reply. I am used to having the high torque (nearly 300 ft/lb), coupled with auto and cruise it makes for effortless progress especially on the fairly long motorway journeys that I do quite regularly.
I ruled out the Ateca because the wife had difficulty getting in and out, the Formentor is a little bit lower and that makes the difference. I also looked at a BMW X1 but again too difficult for her and the current BMW is getting too low for her, so that's why I am where I am.
From what you wrote, it looks as if you favour the 2.0 tsi and I'm leaning towards that myself. Thinking ahead, yes the car tax will be higher but not horrendous and it won't have the complexities of a hybrid. I have a meeting with the Cupra Master (yes that's her title!) at the local dealer tomorrow to spec and order it.
