mottles

Hello all

I picked up my mk4 cupra tdi on Monday and im very impressed so far.. But.. One small problem I've found is for some reason if I leave the lights on and remove the keys from the ignition no sound is made!

According to the book it should give a warning signal but nothing.. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

mine does this also, if the full lights are on they will automatically switch off when the key is taken out and i get a warning sound when the door is opened iirc.

Mine seem to stay on and even when the door is open no warning.. I don't want to presume they will turn off ie like the follow me home lights and find my battery is dead the next morning!

mine turn off instantly, i think full lights go off on mine as soon as ignition is turned off.
not too sure how to go about sorting that out though, sorry mate

mottles, does the interior light come on if you only open the driver's door? So unlock --> wait for interior light to go out --> open driver's door

If not, you'll need a new locking mechanism, the microswitch on it will have failed.

I first bought a new microswitch from RS Components, and used that guide to help me fit it. Problem was it would still only work intermittently, so I gave up and bought a new one.

fair enough just thought i would mention it,

how much was the new one as i have had the problem for 3 years but never got round to sorting it as it doesn't really bother me much.

Cheers for all replies.. The interior lights all work fine both when I unlock using the fob and when I open the doors.

Would that effect the warning sound for leaving your headlights on not operating?

Thanks again

im quite interested to know the fix for this if one is found as a friend of mine has an ibiza & he has no warning when the lights are left on & the door is open, his also dosent do that clicking when you put the indicator on & the interior light dosent work on the drivers door but does on the other one. also he dosent get that beep when the fuel light comes on like mine & probably all the rest do

Happened on mine a couple of years ago. Interior light would come on buy keyfob but not from opening the door and warning buzzer didn't work. Turned out to be a dodgy door sensor/micro switch that just needed cleaning up. I think it had a bad earth. Worked fine ever since.

If the interior light doesn't illuminate when the drivers door opens (whilst your headlights are on) then the control signal to make the buzzer sound doesn't get sent, as the car simply doesn't know the door is open.

Seen as you say the interior lights work properly, and assuming your low fuel chime and indicator tick works fine, I'd now be thinking there could be a problem with the headlight switch, or the wiring to it.

I think he has two problems there, a faulty door lock mechanism and a connection problem to the instrument cluster and/or a cluster fault.

Thanks for that.. The indicator tick and the fuel chime both work fine, which makes me think it's a switch issue.

I text the previous owner and he said not every cupra had that? Surely it wouldn't of been mentioned in the manual if that was the case?

No they all do. I was going to offer you my old headlight switch but you have a Cupra (with fog lights) and my old switch doesn't have front fog function :(

Does the icon on the cluster illuminate when you put your sidelights on?

New headlight switches are about £40 from the dealer last time I enquired, so really you want to be sure it's the headlight switch before you change it.

Cheers for the potential offer.. Yeah everything lights up correctly, literally it's just the warning signal doesn't come on. It's no great loss but just frustrating!

May take it down the local dealer to see what they say.

just to bring back this thread back from the dead. I've noticed that not all the instument dial lights come on. The major ones like the oil work (top row) but the middle row doesn't illuminate.

I only noticed because no light comes on when drove and didn't have my belt on.. same goes for when a door or the boot is open.

Can anyone recommend a good specialist in the Cardiff area as the local dealership have quoted a fortune to investigate.

the ibiza doesn't have those functions :(

That would make sense! It's only because I could make out the signs if I shone a light on there.. I presume they are redundant then?
