Hello all,

I test drove and agreed to purchase a Seat Ibiza 2L 16v Gti (1998) at the weekend, and thought I would do a bit of research, so have spent the past couple of hours reading the... you know you own a Mk2 Ibiza when.... thread! (might have been better to do it prior to agreeing the purchase?).

However, practicalities are out of the window as the grin on my face and slightly shaky hands on returning from my test drive just made me want it!

It has not been looked after and is in a bit of a sorry state, which I hope to rectify, apart from being full of crap and many bits falling off or missing, there seems to be only one pressing mechanical issue...

On tick over it will rev low and normal and then the revs go up and stay for a moment before dropping back to normal again, (exhaust has a small hole and looks like it needs replacing and wondered if that may be related)

If anyone has come across this before your help would be great.

Sorry to write such a longen...

I pick the car up next weekend, so will check those - I have also invested in a Haines Manual in anticipation of getting this car back to a respectable condition.

Many thanks for your reply:happy:

Could be as simple as a dirty tb, idel control valve (not cheap new) I thought that was my problem before but swaped it for my mates and still happened.

Don't know what it was after had my engine work done and it just went lol.

Another thing to look at, where the idle control valve goes into a box then to the filter. At the box there is another pipe under it and that goes to the block, this can become worn and will "stick" have a feel of it and it shouldn't be too easy to squeeze…. If it is that will also need replacing.

lol, i was looking there "last poster - dinky dave" thinking, who the f**k is that, its just yourself.

Well, like dinky says, check the ICV and the box going into the airfilter housing.

Thanks all for your input...

Got it last night, so gonna start with the basics (plugs/leads) and generally knackered stuff that needs replacing... when it stops snowing I'll get out and start putting some of your ideas to the test.

Thanks again.
