New Sony Stereo memory loss mystery

I recently changed the stock Alana stereo out of my 1.2 Stella for a new Sony CDX-G1000U and have had memory loss issues since.
I thought the original cause of the memory loss was because at the time I installed it I had no DIN to ISO Ariel adapter, I put the adapter in (a PC5-27 adapter) and still had memory loss issues. After doing some Goggling and being directed here every so often I found that VAG change pins 4 and 7 around, I went and bought a PC2-69-4 adapter harness off eBay from the same company that I bought the Ariel adapter from (they're a car audio specialist).
I installed it and still have memory loss every time I turn of the ignition, the clock resets, the stored stations reset, the beep sometimes resets and the demo mode resets. I've tested both pins 4 and 7 and they provide 12V when the ignition is turned off. I had a look at the power wiring harness and found that 2 wires had been attached to pins 7 (a red wire) and 8 (a black wire).
I assume this was for a hands free unit or something but the speaker harness is not modified, I have one thing in the car that I am not sure what it is, it appears to be a speaker or microphone which is attached the front support pillar with on either side of the passenger cabin at the front. There also appears to be an aftermarket remote central locking system installed as the hole it is in is very poorly done.
Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong? Is it a dodgy head unit or dodgy wiring by a previous owner? The stock Alana unit never seemed to have any issues with memory loss issues so I feel it may be a dodgy head unit more than anything.

If it is any help here's a list of the power wiring loom colour and what pins they go to:

2 White/purple pin 1
Pin 2 empty
White/grey pin 3
Red/brown pin 4
Pin 5 empty
Grey/blue pin 6
Blue/black with red cable spliced to it pin 7
Blue/brown with black cable spliced to it pin 8

You need to switch your permanent 12v and switched 12v leads over as they are different on VAG cars to the standard ISO wiring harness, this should restore your memory issues.

I am aware of that, and that is why i bought the an Ibiza to ISO cable adapter kit, yet it does not work even with the wires changed over

Quick update, i've had a look at the adapter kit i bought and it appears to be a pass through not a cross over, over the Christmas period i am going to my parents who have a similar stereo in their i am going to try theirs in mine and mine in theirs to rule out a defective unit

Thought it strange, most head units now have the facility to swap over the power wires in the harness to suit the car you are fitting it to but obviously not yours :(

It probably does, i jut don't really know, it's my first car so i am going in a bit blind to be honest, i became aware of the VAG wiring problem through these forums, i saw there was usually an adapter harness available to do the changeover for you, but it doesn't seem to have been set up that way

Final update, the stereo is now working, it turns out the adapter cable i bought was a very poorly put together pass through cable that appeared to be a crossover, thanks for the assistance guys
