Hi I was hoping for some help and advice, gave the car a wash last week and after quite a few motorway miles theres lots of tar etc on the bottoms of the doors. Was told to get a clay bar but ive seen so many different ones i dont know what grade or anything to go for?
Car is a yellow MK5 cupra. thanks :)

If there is a lot of tar you would be better getting a dedicated tar and glue remover to sort them and then follow that with a clay over the whole car.

As its your first time try Auto Glym Tar remover and either an Auto Glym clay kit or Meguiars clay kit (all available from Halfords and most other motor factors).

There are LOTS of other options for both of the above products but for a 1st timer these should be fine.

Best advice for claying is lots of lube and if you drop the clay bar, bin it.

Thanks, yeh a friend said to cut the clay bar incase i drop it so i still have some left. how much use would i get out of the bars?

I usually cut 1 bar in half so have 2 pieces... depending on the state of the car i'm working on and the condition of the clay afterwards will depend on whether i use that clay again or not. Generally i throw the clay away once used but if i clay a car its usually because it needs it. i wouldnt clay a car if it wasnt required.

When you clay a panel you will notice that the clay looks dirty

Turn / kneed the clay in your hands so you have a clean surface for the next panel... also, keep the clay soft and reletively warm in your hands (a jug of hot water to leave the clay in when not in use will help).

some kits such as the meguiars clay kit you get 2 smaller bars with it, helped a mate clean his car the other week and used the autoglym kit and the bar was huge in comparison

Iv used the meguiars clay and think its pretty good, you get two clay bars, claying lube, towell and a wax when you buy the kit from halfords for about £25. For the tar remover iv used the autoglym one before which isnt bad, but i am using Tardis now and its far better in my opinion. well worth it saves alot of time!

My personal choice is bilt-hamber and aslong as you keep stretching it in and out using a new piece of the clay as your going along it should last for a while bud till it an 1/8th of the size its starts of as.i only do mine once every few months as it lasts for ages the idea is to draw all the bad stuff to the clay etc. so if you could only use it once it would be pretty much pointless considering the size of it lol but then again i guess it would depend on the state you let the car get into  shampoo, dry towels, buffing towels, polishing towels, prime lime wax, purple haze wax n foam sponge and finger polishing and detailing applicators all from rubbish boys/dodo juice :D
