Hiya all.

While searching for a solution to a few niggles with my SEAT I discovered this great site so thought I'd ask you nice chaps (and any chapettes) for your advice.

After 3 years great service from my Seat it has in the last couple of months developed a few faults and being a poor student I don't have the beer tokens to get a garage to sort them for me.

My car is an 1.4 Ibiza 51 reg (mk2 facelift? mk3?) Only has 50,000 on the clock. And up till september has been serviced regularly.

The problems are as follows....

1) Water temp on the dashboard is usually not functional, occasionally it will go up to 90c for a few minutes then drop back down (I'm thinking a loose connection). I have checked the connection by the water overflow header tank thing, (the bulbous thing with g12 printed on it) (stop me if I'm getting to technical) but that seems to be fine..... is there another connection somewhere? if so where? (a pic would be helpful)

2) External Temperature on the radio/ac display just show's as a blank. I have looked for a loose connection in the temperature sender in the passanger side wing mirror but it looks fine. What else should I check?

3) Occasionally (usually when it's cold) I'm getting an intermittant fault with my ignition. The car starts fine, but once started will immediately stall unless I push down the throttle. It will not idle. This tends to clear up if the engine has been running for a while to warm up. Could this be a problem with the Air Inlet Temp Sender? If so where do I find this? (again pictures would be helpful) I've had a quick look under the bonnet but could only locate the MAP sender.... is this a dual function unit?

Thank you all in advance for any help/suggestions.

I'd take a guess that problems 1 and 3 are caused by a faulty coolant temperature sensor.

Problem 2 is more difficult as you are getting no display - so I would be surprised if it's the sensor itself. Have you tried pointing a hair drier at the sensor to see if it makes any difference?

"I'd take a guess that problems 1 and 3 are caused by a faulty coolant temperature sensor."

Is there another coolant temp sensor hidden somewhere that I'm not aware of? As these are intermittant faults I'm suspecting a dodgy connection rather than a faulty sensor. If there is another temp sensor other than on the coolant header tank? If so where?

"Problem 2 is more difficult as you are getting no display - so I would be surprised if it's the sensor itself. Have you tried pointing a hair drier at the sensor to see if it makes any difference?"

I have tried the hair dryer trick but it didn't make any difference at all. All I'm getting on the display is "--.-c" Again I'm suspecting a loose connection as yesterday it the display did start giving me a reading for a while... until I went over a sleeping policeman when it went back to --.-c

Any thoughts?

Another thought that occurs to me is does anoyone know if there are any workshop manuals available for my car? I know haynes don't do one although if the 51 regs' were just a facelift of the Mk2 would not a haynes mk2 manual do the job?

Newbie Help!!! I have a seat ibiza and over the past few things are gradually going wrong, Im assuming they are all related? Firstly the red oil light keeps flashing and beeping (oil level fine), next the fuel gauge is erratic. Needle moving up and down constantly. Now Ive noticed my mileage isnt changing and the speedo is not moving!!! Any ideas

What model of Ibiza? Reg, year, engine size, that sort of thing.

Red oil light means low oil pressure. Possibly a blocked pickup in the sump, otherwise the oil pump. This is a serious problem and needs attention now.

Mileage and speedo = broken speedo cable. Could be mechanical or electric depending on the car. With no speedo you're in trouble if caught speeding - it's no defence, you need to get it fixed.
