Spoke to a well known "tuner" (not salesman) about this very topic. He did say the 2.0 tsi was easier to obtain more power from with bolt ons. However it wasn't as reliable as far as internals were concerned as the tfsi designed for the KO4 variant.
He had actually tried and tested a brand new out of the wrappergolfgti with "balls out software" Running at just over 400 bhp with the KO4 and various bolts ons. This was all done in Germany last summer. engine had a few thousand on the clock and after 15-20 miles of WOT at between 130-160mph on autobahn routes, piston 4 gave up the ghost. THankfully the car was owned by a german VW dealer who got a new engine under warranty. But similair tests he said were done on the KO4 tfsi and there have been no internal failures while testing himself.
Some of you will know the man. Finland is his origin..... likes fish
