Hi Guys

Wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions or has had a similar issue

I have a Mk2 leon, FR TDI 170bhp, 36k on the clock, owned it for over a year, one owner prior to me, FSH, cambelt done 6 months ago, completely standard and its never missed a beat since I've owned it

On Tuesday evening I was driving home from Manchester, a 250 mile journey, following a week in Wales when it broke down on the M40 - up to this point I'd probably done 600+ miles in about 10 days

Basically I'd stopped for fuel at a services and got 15-20 miles down the road when it started shaking/missing at 80mph in 6th (with cruise control on). I slowed to 70pm and put in in 5ft and the shaking stopped, so I sped up to 80 again and put it back in 6th when the shaking started again. Dropped to 5th and its seemed fine for a couple of seconds and then started shaking again, dropped to 4th and it continue shaking, so I pulled over on the hardshoulder and phoned the RAC - from the fault starting to stopping was probably a minute tops. No warning lights came or and the temperature was normal.

My immediate thoughts were I'd been a #### and put petrol in a diesel!

RAC arrived and confirmed that this was not the case and the fuel was correct. They tried to start the car but the engine wouldn't turn at all, just a single click from the ignition. The guys rocked the car in gear but still nothing, he checked the cambelt and all was fine, oil was fine, water fine, nothing showing under the filler cap. He then came over and stated the engine has seized and he didn't know why but it sounded 'terminal'!

The car was towed home and its going to the garage today for it to be looked at

So any ideas? I'm worried that I have a massive bill coming my way!

Sounds like a right pain in the arse mate, hopefully the garage can sort it out for you. Good luck

wouldnt the temp gauge being off the roof if the engine was about to cease?

when you turn the key doesnt anything spin under teh hood. does it try to start or just the click like the start motor is trying but nothing else happens??

might be a battery issue although i thought once a car was running the battery was redundent :S

lee

Turn the key and absolutely nothing, I think the click is from a soleniod somewhere

Battery was fine as the hazards were going for an hour or so after it stopped and windows, mirrors, radio, still working now

I'm really worried..........

untill you get it to a specialist your just beating yourself up.

get it booked in and let us know the out come :)

Completely agree! Just inpatient and wondering whether or not I will be looking at few hundred or thousand!

I'll sit on my hands from now as my research via this site and the internet is making me even more worried.................

Watch this space!

Literally just had a call from the garage and they have done all the usual checks and can't find the fault - they've basically said they need to start stripping the engine down to see what's wrong, as a result they can't give me any type of quote for the work.........

if it was me i would get it out of there and take it somewhere else, they could be missing something simple and you end up paying thousands in labour for nothing, is it with a dealer or independant, and it wouldnt do any damage giving SEAT UK a call, how much out of warranty are you?

No warranty - don't jump to conclusions about the garage though, a good friend works there and has done all the work on it to date. I'm very confident they won't rip me off. That's the least of my worries!

i did say if it was me, and if it was me, it wouldnt be my mate that worked there so i would be worried about the final outcome from an unknown garage, i only mention this through past experience of one dealer saying a £500 part is needed, then taking it to another dealer and them telling me a wire was trapped fixed FOC.

Everyone whose injectors failed on their PD, but got SEAT to replace them for free, were out of warranty and while i know its not the same thing it doesnt hurt to ask does it, as your only 36K on clock, nothing major should have gone wrong with such low mileage, Seat may cough up something towards it.
