1st off sry if this has been asked millions of time already but


im sitting at work browsing leons on PH and the prices seem pretty good for the cupra s and cupra r s
altho alto of em have quite high mileage .......
80k etc

anyway maybe its just me being a bit weary of "high" mileage on anything less than a 2.0

so im wondering has anyone had any issues with high miles on their engines
or do they still sound as good as they were at 20k?

im no g boy but id like to be confident that if i booted my car i wouldnt end up stranded in the middle on nowhere picking up bits of piston from the road!

theres a nice cupra r that has 93k on the clock for around £7500
do you reckon its worth it ?

id really love it but its just the 93k that puts me off......

so yea .. whats a good mileage to look for, for the £7500 mark?

im not aware of anyone having engine issues due to high mileage. if serviced.

however, a cambelt change is definately required if not done. (also tensioner).

water pump would be good to change at same time as these can go. low mileage or high! (replace with brass impellor).

other things to check would be:
suspension, How worn is it. the standard seat suspension isnt the best.
but that could be an excuse/oportunity to upgrade.

The brakes are not the cheapest as they are quite large and an unusual size on the LCR.

apart from the mileage it seems in really good condition

oh and another thing if these cars have been thrashed for a good few K then what
are they exceptionally tappy etc

for a 1st car i no and have been told taht LCR is stupid but thats mainly down the jealous mates who are are 3k a year for uni fees etcetc
i can afford one and tahts all taht matters to me

I bought an 03 LC (leon cupra) with 78000 on the clock 12 months ago. It was owned by a guy who was doing 1000miles a week repping for his own company. I've since put another 10000 miles on it and it still drives like new.
providing the service history is good you have nothing to worry about and some may argue that a car thats lived a motorway life will wear less than a runabout.

The car looks ok, but tbh, i personally wouldn't buy a car of that age with that sort of mileage... and having just had a gander on the auto trader site, you can get a car pretty much the same age with much less mileage for not a lot more...

If thats what you can afford, then as long as it's been mostly motorway miles, and been serviced in accordence with the manfactures spec's and had the cam belt and associated bits done at 60k then it should be fine.

Basically I was told that LCR's have a reliable engine that (IF) treated carefully these can run trouble free certainly up to 200k miles. LCR's certainly retain their value and TBH that is one of the chepest LCR's I have seen recently. The mileage would put me off but it all depends on how much you have to spend - if you have more then go for lower mileage, but if you don't then i can't see their being any probs with an LCR having done £93k as long as it has been looked after, FSH, and check those things Andy Cupra has mentioned.

if you really want an LCR (I can't blame you) then at least getting a high mileage car means it is cheaper and makes it affordable. Just do a decent check of the car.

This is all good advice.

When i was looking for an LC i only really had the budget for an early pre-facelift model with average miles, y reg to 51 plate sort of age.

I eventually went for the higher milage option due the year (03) and the fact that it was the facelifted version. which imo looks much better but i have to mention i've had a lot of high milage cars and know what to look for so the choice is yours.

An LCR for under £7500 is quite a rare thing but remember it will be worth a lot less than £7500 when it hits the dreaded 100,000 miles

Well I bought a high mileage bad boy, mine is now on 96k and runs sweep as a nut,
had full main dealer service history with belts done at the right times,
Never had a problem with it (looks for wood to touch), starts and drives perfect!
I picked mine up for a really good price and it was immaculate and ticked all the right boxes!

yea ive had a look about for insurance and bell seemed pretty good
i got quoted 1300 for me nd my gf, me with only a month of driving under my belt

i didnt think it was too bad as i was getting quotes of 2000+ on astra CDTi s etc

so i though why not just get a petrol and insure my gf on it to slash the quote

hopfully itll drop a fair bit once i start getting no claims etc

lol i know 1300 isnt really sensible money but i always go on what my mate was quoted for his 1.1 fiesta when he 1st passed ... £1500
so for a 1.8 t i dnt think its too bad

i know its still high money .. my 'rents tell me all the time how much they spend on insurance but at the end of the day im not as old and i dont have their no claims

i think my mates paying 2 and a bit k for his CT-R now and hes been driving for 3 years

anyone know of a good place for lcr kits? or is it a case of trawling the forum

only trouble with the cupra is that im finding it really hard to find a standard one atm .... i know im gonna get a remap anyway but i want to see what they're like standard 1st if you get what i mean

by the time you have paid out for the LCR kit you may as well get the LCR. its not cheap!

im curious on this insurance, you havnt passed your test yet and you are able to insure a LCR for 1300? is that fully comp?

i havent passed my test yet .. but a did the quote as me being passed for 1 month (that was the lowest the site would go)
750 voluntary excess (with compulsory excess as 500)
i'm 20
and yea it was fully comp
with my gf on there with 2years experience with 0 no claims as she was on her mum insurance

i think about it....

(black magic paint doesn't help with the chips but deffo the colour to have!!!)

i think ive written off the cupra r idea now as i dnt think i could live with the miles coz of the fact that i would be keeping it a while aswell so at 93k starting figure id prolly want something with a little less only a few months down the line ...

i think a cupra 180 is the way fwd as theres a few nice ones with 40-50k on the clock for a grand less
plus i reckon it would knock my insurance from 1300 for a LCR 225 down a bit

then after a bit a remap to get her in the 200+bhp arena

i know if im doing that i may aswell just buy a straight up LCR but until the right one comes along tahts the plan so far

maybe i should look into getting the banks to lend a hand? altho thats an area where i have no clue .. with loans etc
and ive always got the overdraft from my student account hehe
