Hi - I have a post-facelift 2021 SEAT Ibiza FR 1.0 TSI (110). I was hoping to be able to get at least a Stage 1 remap for it down the line, but when I enquired about this with JBS, who seems to be well-regarded VAG performance specialists, they said "We know for sure the 2022 1.0 TSI uses a Delphi ecu and our research so far puts that same ECU on all the face-lift 1.0 TSI on this chassis (Polo/A1/Fabia).
The two main tools that we use haven't cracked the protocols yet to communicate with this ECU to be able to even get a read, as such we couldn't tune it."

And so in the case of my car: "may not be possible to do any kind of tuning, even stage 1."

If that's truly the case, then that's really disappointing, as I was hoping to get the engine up to 130 hp, at least, with a tune.

I do see some other companies offering ECU tuning for my era of Ibiza (e.g. JR Tuning), though suspect those are generic 1.0 TSI remaps and may only actually work with the older Bosch ECU unit.

Has anyone had any luck with getting a proper remap for a post 2021 facelift 1.0 TSI Ibiza? Has anyone been able to crack the Delphi ECU? I don't really want to have to resort to using a plug in tuning box, not sure I really trust what they do to the engine management.

What's your reg or VIN? We can take a look and see which ECU is installed and go fro

VIN: VSSZZZKJZNR026653

Engine Code: DLAA

Think the car was made in August or September 2021.

I get this information about the engine from ODBELEVEN:

The engine looks like this:

Does that help? If there's any more information that I can get from ODBELEVEN that might help, let me know! Thanks!

I'm not looking to completely hot rod the car, but if I can get another 20 HP/40NM of Torque or so out of it with a good stage 1 tune somehow, then would make me very happy.

This suggests it might be possible now, at least, to read and modify the Delphi ECU in modern VAG cars?: https://www.dfbtechnology.com/en/vag-delphi-dcm3-7-jtag-mode

"Now available in DFOX new JTAG driver for reading and writing the DELPHI DCM3.7 ECU mounted on the VAG cars. The connection is made much simpler than with the old JTAG+BOOT method as it is no longer necessary to open the ECU from the underside.

Possible operations are:

  • Complete reading Micro RENESAS R5F72543 + EEPROM
  • Writing Micro + EEPROM
  • Recovery
  • Checksum"

Not found anyone who has cracked the Delphi GCM 7.4 ECU yet, though think Autotuner are working on it. Not sure that it's possible to just swap out the ECU for the earlier Bosch one, though if it is, would be interested!

Is swapping the ecu possible?

I ran a racechip box on my 2014 1.2TSI Leon and a DTUK tuning box and pedal box combo on my 2015 2.0 TDI Leon X-perience for years without an issue. They made a very noticeable difference.

They're not for everyone but speaking from my own experience, they were a decent alternative to a remap.

Thanks, good to know, in case I do decide to ever go down that route. If I did, I'd certainly only use a tuning box from one of the more reputable suppliers like Racechip or DTUK, as you did, though I'd probably wait until my car is outside of its warranty period - next year, I think, as I got a 2-year extended warranty when I bought my used car direct from a SEAT dealer.

A pedal box works quite differently to the tuning boxes, obviously, and shouldn't do any harm whatever - did you find that made much of a difference to your enjoyment of the car?

The pedal box transformed how the vehicle drove. Before the box I tried to code the ECU to alter the pedal settings but it was unhappy and showed a fault.

Once the pedal box was fitted and setup how I wanted it the throttle lag was gone and it made the car much more enjoyable to drive.

I'd always recommend paying the little bit extra and opting for the Bluetooth versions.

I am really confused as this is a photo from a tuner showing my car having a bosch ecu when it’s a 2021 plate

The ECU is usually easy enough to access, unless it has the anti tuning cage on it. If it doesn't, you should be able to pop it out of the bracket and have a look at what the manufacturer is.

This is my engine bay too the far right it’s underneath whatever them metal screw type things are and I don’t think it just pops off

Ah, that'll be the anti tuning cage.

PM me your reg and I'll see what's listed on ETKA
