You may have seen the post early this week, I had put the car into Westerham Seat, who are great by the way, for what I expected to be another knackered bearing on the drivers side. The LCR has only done 17,500 ish and i was surprised that another had gone, but put it done to Kent's rally style roads.

I phoned the garage and do my horror they informed me that the noise is from the gearbox and it needs stripping or replacing?? WTF? I've only had it since April and i'm not exactly a gear cruncher??

Anyone had this problem, know what causes it? The garage may need the car for 1-2 weeks!!

Thanks to Westerham Seat as they have given me a brand new altea! Funny to drive after my LCR but hey you can put loads of stuff in it!! Sure makes you appreciate the power

what are the symptoms?

rumbley or crunchy

a few gearboxes have been changed though.... the people that spring to mind were never 'hard' on the cars - so they're material failures

Gears were becoming slightly notchy, the main symptom was a whining, rumbling and humming which I thought was a front wheel bearing. Mine's an early 04 225 model.
