Hello all. Just spent about 20mins with the old search function and have learnt a little about the above, but most posts seem to trail off and don't get concluded.

Anyway, I have been offered a bottle of this octane booster by a friend prior to going on the Dyno. He runs it in his Impreza every now and again and it is supposed to lift the RON by 2 (so it'll be 101ron then). My car has never run on anything but 99ron (V-Power or Tesco) and seems to like it so what benefit will this give or is it completely worthless? I'll be adding it to about 30L of V-Power tonight or tomorrow if I decided to go ahead but I have no idea if the ECU will even adapt that fast for it to improve anything by Sunday if at all.

Any info much appreciated.

Yeah I know what your saying. I have had a recent dyno and the results were impressive (IMO), just wanted to see if this would lift anything and as I can get the booster cheap, would have considered making it a more regular thing.

Well, I'll be different to everyone else.
The RON rating of petrol degrades over time.
You never know what the RON rating of the petrol you get out of the pumps actually is.
This could elevate the RON level back to what it should be and AFAIK it won't harm your car in the short term.
I'd go for it and plan to at some point.

If there are no conclusions to the threads at least we will be able to tell by your results whether it is worth it or just as waste. If your getting it cheap, go for it.
My friend did in his MK2 Leon Cupra and noticed a big difference in how is already very fast car felt.
If you do this make sure you add it a day or so before the RR and reset ECU after doing it to allow ECU to adapt to the better fueling. If you have VAG com some logs to prove all is well would give you some confort that nothing is going wrong

I agree with Willie, but would add that the RON value degrades a LOT quicker than you would think.

The degradation is worse on higher octane fuels like Tesco99 and Optimax as the additives required to achieve the higher octane are added post refinement and often just prior to filling up the tanker trucks. These additives are volatile and degrade quickly.

I use Optimax exclusively as there isn't anything else locally and as my car doesn't get used from one weekend to the next, sometimes 2 weeks, I ALWAYS notice this degradation and it feels flat as fook until I top up or use OB (I use Millers CV Turbo).

On fresh petrol and using OB, the car feels so much more smoother in power delivery and seems to negate the effects (to a degree) of heat soak. as DPJ says "A good octane booster will reduce knock and lessen Correction Factors applied to timing by the ECU when the engine is under heavy load." which is why it feels to lessen the effects of heat soak.
