Odd nosie from under the car

Got a bit of a knocking/scraping noise coming from under the car.

At first thought it was exhaust related, as the first time it happened I thought the something had fallen off. Been under the car and exhaust system seems to be all ok. Almost feels and sounds if it's coming right under the gearstick/handbrake area.

Only occurs when turning right at slow speeds (e.g at junctions etc....) and in 1st or 2nd gear. Doesn't happen any other times.

Any ideas?

Think its usualy the outer c.v,dont hold me on this though,

Mine was doing the same when i turned at low speeds also, turned out it was the outer c.v joint.

Very common for the centre exhaust welds to break but the mounts prevent the pipe from sagging. I'd have someone with a ramp look at it before you stab in the dark and do anything with the cv joints.

Good shout. Managed to get car on ramp today. Turns out to exhaust knocking about due to brackets being snapped. Mechanic has tried to fix for time being but a new middle section is really required. Says the exhaust is fine other than that, so will put up with it for the now.

Just glad it's nothing too serious as I always fear the worse with car problems.

This is an absolute classic.. Just wanted to say thanks to MJ and TommyGun for describing the problem accurately. Last few weeks I've been agonising over this noise and changed wheel bearing and outer CV.. I have even been getting quotes for gearbox rebuilds! See my thread here.. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=362385

Anyway after testing again in the office carpark last night and finding that the noise came back whilst turning right, coasting with clutch down and blipping the throttle! So today I get under the car and sure enough, the centre section has loads of play and is bumping into the chassis tunnel on the left only. Will buy some fresh rubber mounts and have the bracket welded next week!

Thanks

Alex
