Odd tyre wear

After just 10500 miles I have had to have all 4 tyres replaced on my Exeo.

The 2 front went down to the indicators, and the back 2 had some very strange wear pattern, which, having spoken to Seat they are now getting the car's alignment checked...

The rear tyres have a slight "s" to the surface, the inside had plenty of tread, maybe 4-5k left but the outside almost worn down... there was also a lot of road noise which has now stopped...

The car has Dunlop SportMaxx GT fitted...

Having had tyre issues with my Leon fitted with Bridgestones had a similar problem, which the alignment proved OK, and Continental tyres cured the problem... Seat paid for all this

Has any one else got odd tyre wear on the rear? and if so What tyres?

I think that the Exeo does not like Dunlop tyres.... As anyone got else got Dunlops fitted? seems most have Goodyears or Bridgestones...

Be interested in what SEAT say, and has you found the Leon did have some problems with earlier builds. And it is interesting that some tyre manufactures seem more prone to noise/wear than others too have got 18500 out of mine with switch around at 9k but ALL the outer edges are worn down and would probably fail ??............................

Not necessarily, the law says that you must have 1.6mm of tread for 2/3 of the tyre width (in one continuous stretch) - ie. a bald spot in the middle of the tyre will fail you but bald edges are OK as long as the treaded area between them is at least 1.6mm deep and 2/3 the width of the tyre.

I had a lot of problems with my Altea, turned out to be the camber was set wrong at the factory, once the 4 wheel alignment was done the problems (feathered tread, drumming noise like a shot wheel bearing) went away, but too late to save the back tyres which were worn on the inside due to the angles being excessive. Got nothing out of SEAT.

This was a common fault on the Altea, not sure about the Exeo. My Exeo does a slight shimmer driving over wet drain covers so might get it checked out in case the tracking is out slightly.

Dealers are well aware of such issues and are very, very reluctant to admit it as tyres are so expensive and SEAT UK don't want to be fooled by owners getting on the band wagon for a new set.

Find a good wheel alignment specialist, they'll tell you the truth and set up the angles and alignment to your wishes as long as they are within factory limits).

i had this problem when i drove down to london the day i picked my exeo up, it was dancing about on manholes and slight unevenness in the road so i took it back and all they did was get the car on the ramp and visually, NOT physically check the car over and told me they couldnt find anything. it was still doing it so i took it to a wheel alignment specialist. got the print out as it was out enough to cause a problem, kicked up a fuss and showed seat the print out and they refunded me. they wer`nt happy but i pushed them and they gave in!

Thanks Ather's, sounds exactly the same behaviour I have, not bad but makes driving in the wet a bit tiresome.

Did you notice a difference after the re-alignment?

my rears were the opposite, I was getting excessive wear on the inside edge..... trait of the B7 chassis reading the Audi forums.

At the last tyre change ~9months ago, I had a 4-wheel laser alignment done. Had 2 new fronts fitted last week, and the rear wear seems uniform across the width now.

I seem to remember that the bodyshop with the fancy alignment rig provided me with a print out of the results of their work, it showed the factory limits for the Altea alongside the actual values they'd set it for.

That showed me they'd set it as I'd requested with the camber set low, but within factory spec (they won't go outside that). Not great for lap times but still gives a good drive around bends for my wife who likes to set a fast time en route to the supermarket.....

So, I don't have figures for the Exeo but they will be pre-programmed into the rig and can be updated if a manufacturer changes the spec for some reason.
