Hi,

Checked my oil and water earlier today and both are on the low side so planning on topping them up tomorrow.

Been looking on Halfords and the Oil and coolant both look to have changed since last time I bought some (was ages ago).

Can someone confirm if these are the correct oil and engine coolant for the 1.2 TSI (EA211 - 2014)

Coolant (Mine's pink currently) - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/e.../comma-xstream-gg40-antifreeze-ready-mixed-5l

Oil (5W-40) - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/halfords-5w40-fully-synthetic-oil-2l

Cheers

Hi, maybe they don't do it anymore. But it usually says on the expansion tank. Mine says G12 which is xstream G30. GG40 is G13 which will be OK for you to use regardless. But G12 / G12+ is usually a bit cheaper.

You stuck your reg into castols oil checker? I'd have thought it'd be 5w30. Should also be in your manual.

Re-checking our 2018 edition of the Leon handbook states the 1.2 petrol requires a minimum
standard of engine oil rated VW 504 00 if the car is being run on 'fixed service interval' but
needs VW 508 00 if run on flexi intervals. It declines to mention a specific temp range.

When researching for some 'correct' oil for the 1.2 Leon, (in case it needed a top-up between
services) a few months back, I came across some Shell HX8 synthetic in 5W-30 range
which complied with both standards and was specifically labeled as being for VAG vehicles.

Purchased a 5 litre container for £18.09p delivered, (after discount code) from CarParts4Less.

As to coolant, again the handbook says it's 'purple' in colour, code G13 to 40% mix and not
much else. Hope this helps.

I'll grab a bottle of the coolant tomorrow, not too fussed about the price as its a 5ltr bottle which will last ages (I hope!).

Castol Oil checker has come back as 0W-30 which I've not come across as of yet when I've been searching.

The main thing which has threw me off slightly is I'm 90% certain I put 5W-30 in last time but now the Halfords checker is saying 5W-40 along with some other posts I've seen on the Skoda forums.

I'd have a look in the manual. Tbh it won't make a great difference. The rating is basically its thickness at cold and hot temperatures. Generally everyone sticks in 5w30. A lot of us use 5w40 when our engines are heavily mapped as 5w30 at its upper range would be so thin it would just burn off causing us to top up more often.

Just been and checked the book, shows as VW 502.00/504.00 so the oil in the link should be OK.

Found the bottle I bought last time (Remebered the picture) and it was the long life Oil I got which was 5w-30.

I’ll shove in some 5W-40 tomorrow as that what Seat should have put in it when it went for a service as it’s set for fixed servicing.
