Quick question.

Been leaking oil recently, checked everything and it appears my sump plug washer has gone. Is the washer replaceable? Or is it a new bolt and washer?

Cheers.

Easiest to buy bolt+washer as an assembly, I'm sure that you could find the P/N for a suitable VAG washer from another older VAG car/engine,but why bother, the dealers always just fit a new bolt which is pre-fitted with a washer.

Not a case of "partially stripped sump drain hole threads" is it?

Any idea where to get one?

Don't want to get an eBay one and find out it doesn't fit.

No, threads are 100%, sump was replaced at the start of the year. Had a rough winter.

Any VAG marque dealer, as they have all used that engine. part number is N908 132 02, maybe even try a VW van centre or TPS if they will deal with you.

Actually that drain plug was used on lots of VAG engines round about that time period.

Use a small amount of liquid gasket on the washer as well.

Then invest in an oil pump. Make oil changes so much easier :)

I did but I'm not impressed with it, took about and hour and a few pumpings to empty the sump of wife's old Polo, it might now sleep back in its box for a while! It was the spherical model I bought.

I used one on all cars, swear by them. As long as you warm the engine, it's great!

Maybe I was using the smallest diameter tube instead of the biggest diameter that fitted down the dipstick tube. It did work very well on my motor mower - saved lifting it up onto blocks and fumbling around underneath to get to the drain plug.

Edit:- it was the Pela 600 that I bought.

Visited a SEAT dealer today, sump bolt was £2.00. Actually got 30p off. From a dealership!

Visited Halfrauds afterwards, got some Castrol 5w30 Fully Synth for £23.99, from £31.99. Love my trade discount card.

Going to change the bolt over, put some PTFE on the threads and give it some new oil too, when it stops raining.

All done.

Sump bolts were actually different, original was a 17mm head, 14mm thread and about 20mm in length. New one was a 19mm head, same thread and about 40mm in length.

Copper washer on old one had had it. New one is in with PTFE tape on the threads and tight. As it's almost twice the length too I imagine it's got a better ability to seal.

Edit: A strange thing happened too, the old oil turned my gloves and skin bright yellow.

Edit 2: Apparently water in the oil can cause it to be yellow, this is the same oil that was in there when I changed my PCV valve so maybe it will stop now.
Also, as I'm a delivery driver, it's a lot of short trips. Anything I can do to minimise it?
