Oil Filler Cap shattered on LCR

Went to up my oil this morning and oil filler cap disintegrated as I twisted it off:censored:

The handle piece came away from the lower disc/sealing ring section which also broke into four pieces.

Now that I've 'rebuilt' it, it's a very tight fit back in place on the rocker cover, unlike before.

My question is this:

Is the cap designed to allow for crank case breathing?

Part No: 06B 103 485B

There's nothing obvious that I could see to suggest it does.

My concern is that if it is meant to breath, is my repaired cap going to end up pressurising the crank case and cause problems?

No, it seals. There is a valve that allows the crankcase pressure out into the inlet.

Nice one Matt.

Repaired it at work. Just got home (15 mile trip) and couldn't see any signs of oil forced out around the cap so concluded it wasn't vented.

Thanks for taking time out to reply.
