It would seem my stupid brother overfilled the oil on my cupra r 210 and driven the car and now it would seem the car refuses to start?

any recomendations? what could be the problem? is it as serious as a completly blown engine? how easy is it to replace the current engine with a cupra r 225 engine or can it be rebuilt?

cheers

TJ

He put a litre extra in after the oil warning light came on! Shortly after the engine seized! I fear the worse! How much is a full rebuild?

Not on a seat but I've done that. few year ago mind.

The excess oil should have come through breather at the top of the engine back into the air intake don't think it would be that bad. The oils probably caused havoc with a sensor or the throttle body.

I'm sure somebody else will put a post up that knows a bit more than me.

It was in between the 2 markers! I've been told that it could be very bad? Anybody got any experience?

depends where between the 2 markers, min to max is generally 1-1.5 litres so if it was at the min and he topped up 1 litre, no problem, if it was half way it still wouldnt be the end of the world.

I suspect that in fact rather than a fault from overfilling the oil, I think you may have had an oil pressure fault bringing the light on which has now caused further damage to the engine. That is just a shot in the dark though.

my thoughts exactly!

i think you have a different problem, overfill wouldnt seize the engine like that. would cause a bit of prob but nothing serious at all. maybe oil to come out of breather pipes etc. but not a seizure from an overfill of a litre or so. are you sure the oil light hasnt come on because of failed oil pump or blocked up oil pick up strainer pipe then you have toped up the oil which hasnt made a difference because its blocked up and its seized up due to no oil

Is it possible that the oil has drained of the manifold and into one cylinder so it won't compress. I presume that was what seat adam mean't.

take the spark plugs out and dip some tissue or a rag into the cylinder to check for hydraulic lock. I think this is unlikely though. I think it would just burn it because the excess oil is sucked up the breather into the air intake. This wouldn't do much good for your catalytic converter.

I don't think your brother topping up your oil has caused your engine to seize!

well i am going to try and check the spark plugs etc and will take it from there! nightmare!
