where is the stock sender for the stock dashboard temp guage?

ive fitted an oil temp guage as described in this thread but i get a different reading on it. dashboard gauge sits at 90. always.

new additional gauge reads 100ish . not gone over 105 so far.

if 90 is stock normal. would a remap up this figure?

im not overly concerned as its not hitting high temps, but intrested as to why the difference.

gauge is earthed well.

Are you being serious?

The gauge in your car does not read oil temperature so that is why you are getting 2 different readings

The 90 is your water temp

Its a very common misconception but i really dont know why!

A quick glance in your manual and you would have known

Good point. Very important knowing where the temp was coming from.


I never got much over 120ºC, but was at the oil pan...
Now it's never over 90ºC (with big oil cooler).

just fitted an oil temp gauge to my chipped lcr. Normal temp is 120C rising to 150C if driving it hard.

i have a mk1 g60 which never goes above 110C driven hard and usually sits about 95 on normal driving. Lcr seems to run very hot!

Thank god there's someone else thats fitted a temp gauge to a chipped LCR!

My readings are exactly the same, and as you have said a chipped LCR runs very hot indeed!

It is a bit worrying tbh!

Don't know what you are all worrying about it's not water FFS as some people are getting confused with! As long as you change it regularly you'll be fine! I saw a programme on tele the other night about testing some engine (not sure what it was as i probably was pissed at the time) but they had the engine at max output for 4 weeks to simulate 100,000 miles! MAX OUTPUT! No oil change or f**k all and it was fine! Get a grip, 30'C more is not gonna make any difference! Thrashing it when the engine is cold is more of an issue!

Come to think of it, it may have been the 2.5T Volvo engine in the new Focus ST! Now thats a solid engine, not your typical ford ZETEC sh!t! Don't care what any one else says they are shi!t. And yes I may have had a few drinks tonight

150 degress C is pushing it a bit even for fully synthetic. Also keeping oil temps down should decrease overall engine temps, which could in turn slightly rise power. when the temps get that high oil pressure does take a dive

yeah saw that program as well. Still think that the oil temps seem very high for the lcr. How easy is it to fit an oil cooler?

NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0w30 is spec, the higher viscosity @ higher temps is stable by the oil thickening, you dont want that or your crank will be like bashing in to lard @ high temps/revs........... 0w/30 or 5w/30 is fine @ upper levels it revs better with this oil/starts better/ and because there is less friction/thinner, improves mpg too,
some honda v tecs run 0w/20!!!!!! because of high revs they need to attain

210f is only 99c so nothing to worry about!

Chipped LCR's are seeing between 120-150c and realistically could do with an uprated cooler as these temps are extremely high

w rating relates to viscosity when cold ( 0 being the thinnest) , whilst the other number relates to thickness when hot.
