Oil/Water Temp

ON the 2l 8v what oil temp do your car run at and what does it go upto under hard driving?? and were abouts on the water gauge does the temp reach? does it ever go over half way???

I think there is something wrong with my gauge, it sits at about the 1/4 mark during normal driving. Sitting in traffic in hot weather it goes up to 1/2 mark. Any higher and the electric fan comes on.

I believe it should sit at 1/2 mark and the fan come on at 3/4 mark.

Edit: Just to clarify, my ancient 8v GTi only has water temperature gauge.

my oil temp sits at 96'C during normal driving. Never really driven it 'hard' for any period of time, but I have seen it rise to about 100'C occasionally.

Water temp sits at 1/2 way all the time.

If yours is sitting at 1/4 way, try changing the thermostat had a similair problem on the gf's 1.4, cured it by changing the thermostat.

Same as the above m8, my car 2.0l 16v Cupra GTI, oil temp 80 - 95, temp half way regardless of how im driving.

out of interest where is the oil temp reading taken from on your motors?

I think the temp sensor is on the front of the block, just above the sump.... not 100% sure though.

mine sits between 90-96 but have got it to 108, flat out ( 135 ish ) on one of them very very hot summer days we had
