One Door sensor for iinterior light/alarm not working

I have a problem on my Toldeo, which to you guys is probably very simple………however unlike all previous cars I can not find the Door Switch that operates the Interior lights / Car Alarm etc etc. I believe this is not working because :

Interior light does not come on when the door is opened (however if I open the door but then close but just partially open it the light comes on)

If I use the key fob to unlock central locking/disarm Alarm. I open the car door (bearing in mind that due to this faulty switch the alarm system does not know I've opened the door) sit in the car & then the central locking locks me in the car because the added Safety feature kicks in that if I inadvertently Unlock/disarm using the Keyfob and no door opening takes place it relocks the car/rearms.

In the above scenario unless I'm quick when I put the key in the ignition the alarm goes off/immobiliser is in operation.

as far as i know the switch is on the door lock inside the door, i have the exact same problem with mine.
Bloody annoying aint it :)

and i think the switch is part of the doorlock so the whole lot as to be changed, that's why i haven't bothered doin mine, yet.
if i'm wrong can somebody please correct me!

I have the same problem. Every now and then it does work, but once in a blue moon. It also doesn't do the memory seats/mirrors back to the set position after somebody else has been in the car.

I'm also fairly sure that it is part of the door lock and that will need to be replaced. I changed mine with a 2nd hand one from ebay about 4 or 5 years ago (cost me £30). I think a new one from a dealer is closer to £100. Its annoying, but not worth spending £100 on to fix it. If you do go down the rout of replacing the lock, the plus side is it only takes about 45 min's from start to finish to do it.
 
The other option (one that I'll be tackling in the summer) is that most door lock faults are caused by faulty solder joints or microswitches. There's a really good how-to somewhere that shows an Audi door lock being dismantled due to it not working. As soon as it's open you can see the dry joints on one of the circuit boards, a quick dab with an iron fixes the problem and it's not cost anything but time. Alternatively while you're in there you can see whether it's one of three microswitches that is no longer behaving itself. If yours works with the door partly open, that suggests to me one of the microswitches should be replaced. My lock problem is that the passenger door doesn't always recognise that its deadlocked, so the lights don't flash.

And at the same time you can replace the door seal, because chances are they'll be needed sooner rather than later! :)
 
good suggestion there slimy, didn't know about the dry joint problems.
that's defo something i'll tinker with when weather comes better.

Its an easy job to do.
Taking the door apart takes around 40mins if you have never done it before, but when you have done it once, you can get it down to around 10 mins or less to remove and 10 to re-install.

Dismantling the lock mechanism is not too tricky either and shouldnt take you too long. Done 8 or 9 now for people.
