Induction kit thread...

Before I get flamed.... I've done a search but can not find what I want to know.

Question :

I have just bought a 180bhp 20VT Leon Cupra and am looking to install a cold air induction kit and will then be having the car re-mapped. I don't want any boy racer whoooshes and ppsssstttss you can hear from 500m away - just a bit more of a purposeful sound than the standard car. I've discounted the smoothed out origianl airbox and would like one of the "less noisy" aftermarket cold air induction systems such as the Dynatwist, Carbonio and BMC (this is the quietest of the three, right?) in particular. Would anyone with experience of hearing all these filters be able to make a list of the filters in order of noise ? Hopefully this will help me decide which one to spend my cash on.... Cheers

the Dynatwist, Carbonio and BMC are ALL very loud mate.

If you want quiet - smoothed airbox, or even standard airbox with green filter is the way to go.

EDIT: I can hear my Carbonio from quite a distance - i've had a mate drive my car and it can be heard a good 100yrs away, if not more.

Hi, sorry to jump into your thread like this deeks, but i too am looking for something like you, i intend to get my car taken to REVO stage 2, and i will be needing new induction kit, what is the easiest to install with the best amount of gain with-out me having to take out a mortgage to buy it?

I have no idea about induction at all by the way so things like green filters and stuff mean nothing! Plz excuse my ignorance

have a search on these forums - LOADS of info.
In fact, search for green filter - will tell you a fair bit.

A Green filter is just like a K&N replacement panel filter - fits in the standard airbox, but gives better airflow.

Cheap is not always the best - the cheaper induction kits can ruin the MAF as most tend to be over-oiled.

Again, search for more info on MAF and over oiled too

OIL?? MAF?? PANNEL FILTER!! Arg! oh deer, i just want something i can stick with ease in never touch it again, and know it works! ill have a look, would one these new filter thingys be enough for a induction kit for a REVO stg 2?

I know the smoothed airbox with a green filter flows better than standard.... but is this set up any louder than standard ?

Any chnce of putting the carbonio, bmc and dynatwist in loudness order ? or are they all similar sounding or make a very similar noise ? Ta......

from personal experience, the bmc/carbonio are almost on a par, volume wise. I'd say the dynatwist is a little quieter, but not by much.
The green filter/smoothed airbox/decent ducting hose is the quietest of them all, but it's certainly louder than standard.

Great Pabs... that's what I was wanting to hear......

Lee.....would you agree and say that the panel green filter sounds louder/throatier than the standard set-up too ?

If this is the case, then I would prefer to spend £40 on the filter and DIY the airbox than spend £200.

its not louder by much - just a bit more of an induction noise.

Add a Forge 007P Ali dump valve, and that'll help a tad as well. You'll need to get some decent 80-100mm cold air feed - that'll also help with the noise (a bit)

I went out in a couple of cars over the last week - both with this combo -and its much quieter than my carbonio thats on the car at the moment, but i can still hear the dv "dump" and it gives it a bit more grunt.

But nothing major you understand - don't think you'd hear it 50yrds from the car. Probably have to be right near the car to hear it....

ive got vipercross on 20v turbo with a cold feed. its not hardly loud but the gain is very good.

I'm thinking of going with the smoothed airbox with green panel filter and 80mm(??) ducting and then getting it remapped.

I'm hoping this will give a slightly improved induction noise above standard.....
