I wonder if anyone can help.

My engine management light came on some time ago (glow plug N4), I replaced all the plugs and the light returned after a few days (glow plug N4 again). I then tested the relay and replaced the loom and the light has come back on again!

Any ideas as I think I have replaced or checked everything. Could it be the relay even though it tests ok? I don’t want to replace it if I don’t have to.

Thanks

Did you find out what was at fault?

Could have been the loom too. These are known to be faulty and sometimes need replacing. Also, after you replaced the plugs (if it was actually plug 4 that was at fault) you might have to reset the ECU by removing earth battery lead for about 10 mins or get the error mapped out.

replace all 4plugs and loom is best thing
it has been known to say plug4 but mean plug2 on some research i had to do
also, what is the proper error code you get with vag-com before you clear it

Thanks for the replies, I can’t remember the code exactly, I think it was intermittent signal – Glow plug 4.

I have replaced the plugs and the loom already which was only a few months ago, after replacing the plugs and then the loom I have reset the light with a Vag-Com from a garage.

The only thing left is the relay, unless I just ignore the light!

Thanks the full code is as follows -

Cylinder 2 Glow Plug Circuit (Q11): Electrical Fault P0672 – 35 – 10 ….. Intermittent

Thanks for the reply,

I have already done the plugs also. I have checked the resistance today which is fine and checked the relay again.

I think it must still be a poor connection even with the new harness.

I have exactly the same problem ongoing. Code is 0672. I've replaced the plugs and all has ben well for about a month but unfortunately the code has returned. Im going to replace the harness now.

This is obviously a bit of a niggling issue that quite a few people have encountered. We should have a thread dedicated to this and people can share their results in one place.

steve,
there is very good threads on this issue in the TDI Enginer Section, but 99% of time people all head for the mk1 section by default.

have a read through and you'll find a good few that say:
error 1st time change all 4 plugs
clear it
wait up to 3months and if comes back change the harness

agree, seems common, but luckily an easy fix to do.

Yeah I agree ill check out that thread. Hopefully those steps get a result for people. To the OP who has already done steps 1 and 2 would it be sensible for him to replace the relay or coolant temp sensor?

Thanks
