Hi Guys,

Had a 2010 Leon Cupra for a few months now. It's past its cambelt service interval. Up until now it's had a full service history albeit not from a dealer but an authorised SEAT service centre.

Now i don't use mechanics ever. There isn't anything i won't tackle on a car. I've built numerous cars engines for my own Mk2 Golf GTi, motorbikes and assisting friends when they need tech advice or an extra pair of hands with whatever build they're undertaking.

My question is - Is it worth keeping up the service history on my Leon given i'm probably going to sell it in a year or so and get something different or do i just do it myself as i've always done.

A cambelt service at the main stealers is 500 plus. Even a local Seat centre is 385. Or i can buy geniune parts from TPS for under 150 and have it done in an afternoon.

What are your thoughts? Maintain the service history or not?

it depends how fussy the future buyers will be, imo if I was buying as long as it had receipts for parts with dates on id not be too fussed and buy as though it had been done by an approved dealer

From my perspective, if somebody shows me a history of parts bought and service details done I would think the car had been better looked after as we all know stealers dont do the best services and if you are using SEAT parts even better.

However if you are selling into the trade they seem to price on full service history

But you save money and you know the car is looked after, me I would do the cambelt myself with your skills.

Generally if someone is buying a car such as a Cupra you would expect them to have a bit of knowledge regarding cars and service history. They would know the cambelt needed doing.

It's a good selling point and for the sake of £150 get it done :)

I'm with you lot. I'm never going to chop the car to a trader. It will always be a sale to another enthusiast and I think they'll appreciate that a decent home mechanic often does a a better job than a amin dealer or private mechanic.
