Opinions on MTEC bulbs?

Hey there

I am aware that there are several threads about bulbs and such but my question is very specific, and it is about 55W MTEC bulbs. Has anyone tried them before? I have 5000K HIDs in my projector lenses (low beam) and would like matching (or at least close) high beam and fog light bulbs.

I have Osram Nightbreaker Plus bulbs in both high beam as well as fog lights, but they are too yellow when compared to the HIDs.

I've heard from several people that the whitest are the MTECs on hids-direct, so I'd like to know if that's true? I am about to order a set of H1 and 9006 55W MTEC bulbs. I'm aware that the whiter the bulbs are, the worse light output they'll have, which is why I am hesitant about the high beam ones but at the same time I'll have to pay about 10 GBP for shipping alone so why not buy both sets at the same time? lol, whereas I don't care about the light output of the fog lights, I just want them to match or at least come close to my HIDs.

Thank you guys!

I have tried HIDs in my fog lights but they are more hassle than anything. The thing is, I don't like activating my fog lights all the time because I don't really need them, which is why I do it when it's a really dark highway, for instance, and I want everyone to notice me as much as possible; the problem is that during normal driving times, the cornering lights activate the fog lights automatically, right? And of course we all know that HIDs take time to warm up, so the cornering lights keeps activating and then de-activating them and for some reason it ends up making them stop working completely and I have to take the ballasts off and then replug them in in order for them to work again.

I had de-activated cornering lights for a time but then re-activated them FOR SOME REASON and now my Vag-Com cable is fried and I cannot do anything about it.

Also I don't have those slim ballasts.. so having four ballasts under the hood isn't a good idea. lol

Would any of you guys be able to take a picture of the MTEC fog lights? Someone here posted a picture of their MTEC H7 bulbs and they were so bright, at least 4300K, so the fact that you're saying they're yellowish makes me feel like they have got nothing over the Osrams then.

Will take some photos later if you want. I thin I saw a post where somone showed the different bulbs in so you can judge for yourself...they tested standard, Mtec and Osrams from what I recall.

Awesome, thanks, mate!

Standard is pretty horrible, in my honest opinion, when it comes to fog lights. Not only are they more yellow than fog lights on almost any VAG car I've seen (especially Octavia), but also their light output is horrendous. They're almost useless and I have no idea why there are cornering lights for fog lights when there should be so for the head lights themselves, lol.

That's awesome, Jarre, exactly what I was looking for. The dipped beam looks wonderful with the MTECs on, they definitely look very white; if the fog lights have the same white output, then I guess I'm going to go for them while stick to the Osram Nightbreaker Plus in my high beam since it's very powerful which is what I need for flashing idiotic drivers who don't understand the concept of lanes ON A HIGH WAY.

Thank you very much for the picture. They are still yellowish but much better than Osrams in terms of color output; I'd say they would be a great match for 4300K HIDs, which I am hopefully getting tonight.

I called the guy and he said he only has 6000K 55W HIDs available at the moment. I wanted 4300K, but he said that if the ballasts are 55W and actually "good", then the light output will be extremely white rather than bluish or yellowish. I am going to try and see, if it's like he says, then I'll buy it, because I am sick of my 35W 5000K HIDs which are very bluish and don't look good.

Well, I wouldn't say they are blue but they have a slight blue tint to it which is obvious to me since I am very nitpicky when it comes to these things. I'd like it to be pure white like on the Octavia or the Benz.
