I set the Cruise on the ibiza at 120 once. it was a steady 28mpg because the load wasn't that bad. still - steady 48's on flat M1 is better.

Here i am:wave: . You know what i am gonna say already i think Ant.:D You could take a few other things off your petrol Fr aswell, ie the intercooler,(i have my old smic still if you want to make an offer). Take off all the exhaust, and bumpers and try and find someone with a red Fr and swap them with that and take their standard bumpers off their hands aswell, fit my smic, take both sets of wheels off and buy my Fr ones.
If you do go for the tdi, you know that you wont stop with just a remap, you know who Allards are;). TBH Ant i think you are just getting cold feet for when i meet you on the strip, and now want an excuse to say yeah well i have diesel too. At the end of the day mate, if you are doing alot of mileage and you cannot cope with the fuel bills then yes a diesel is the way to go or you could get an LPG conversion done on your 20vt and that would surely cut the cost of your fuel bill and then you wouldnt have the hassel of taking everything off your car to try and recouperate the money in selling it.
There you go their is my two penneth.

@ 2700 miles a month...thats only gonna be a maximum of £250 spent on derv...thats a saving against £320!! all mounts up....

slightly biased as want wheels tho haha

JK

Sorry mate if it happens which looks like it will, then i will be keeping the wheels, but theres a nice cupra Interior there.

Tax = saving of £50
Insurance = ( this is unbelievable) my insurance falls from £675 with the mods down to £368 on the TDi !!
Plus I need to start saving for a house so this car mdding needs to be put in check for a while, and as far as safe investment, ican't got too wrong with a TDi ibiza as even 02 TDi 130's are still going for 7-8k so not a real loss.

Thanks all the comments, but it realy does look maybe a done deal, however there will be some bits up for sale soon, such as Front mount intercooler nad pipes and the Cupra Interior and maybe the brakes, not entirely sure yet as i do like them, oh and the standard FR wheels will also be for sale eventually.

will keep you posted on once the deal is all sorted.

That's a pretty good quote for the TDI, and for the 20vt for that matter.
I think without mods the lowest I could get my TDI Sport was about £400-450, and I'm early thirties, full NCB and in a low risk postcode. I did disclose my annual mileage as 25k though, which could account for the difference.

Yeah it is good, i tried a Fabia VRS and that was 460, tried a Cupra Tdi and that was £620. So to be honest te FR is a bloody bargain.

Just got to get final bits sorted on this at weekend, ie test drive ( not worried about that ) and final prices as at last speak i was told there is still a bit of movement on the prce of the car ( which was music to my ears).

Asked most of my mates their opinions and they all seemed to agrea it was a sensible move. I mean i have 2 trips to the ring planned already and Le mans and all the various trips to santa pod and silverstone so the savings are there.

anyway nothings done till its done, i will only go through with the deal if it turns out to be ok for me cost wise. As for the pms and questions regarding bits for sale, let me get it sorted first then i'll work out the best way of doing it,

cheers

I runa diesel mondeo for everyday use and petrol FR for "best" Its a year old and done 5500 miles. but they have been way more fun than the 250000 miles in the mondeo!!!

Can't see the point of having two cars . One for commuting ,one for best.Because the last thing I would want to do after a 90 mile commute is go and drive another car for driving sake .

Far better to do all the driving on one car IMHO

90% of the time in a car you loath/hate... better to get a middle of the road car :) (which he's swayed to)

and cheaper, as only one insurance, one road tax, one service bill.

Its a shame you dont sell yours private, as you could have bought mrcoyotes ibiza that my mate has just bought, that had fmic, 312mm tt brakes, revo, seat sport suspension kit and seat sport 17's and all for £7250. It had done 40 odd thousand miles though, but it would easily see another 100k.

yeah but i spose i will have a nearly new one. I have a couple of things planned, ie all the bits i keep of fmine going on. the small things, such as pedals, ali dash kit, ariel, also the Graphite cupra 17's and the Brembos. But apart from that will be left to just a remap for the year, may chuck in the black roof lining etc oh and a big F**K off TDi badge on the backs so they know! oh and colour code the side strips and a set of seat side skirts which are nice and descreet. But no plans for any big intercooler change, or turbo upgrade.

Way i see it is i can keep it for 2 yrs save some money up buy myself an internet bride and settle down, then when in position to move on to my next car it will be a damn site easier to sell on than the 1.8T and also hold its value a lot better.

looking forward to sounding like a tractor. Funny thing this seems to be the only ever car decision i have ever made that my Dad has turned round and said " that actually all makes sense" usually he just says " more waste of money"

So yours will look very similar to mine then Ant, could you not keep the intercooler and just buy the additional pipework thats different to the one you've allready got?

Almost, but with much better brakes.... :p :p

Nah, gonna sell the intercooler as do need to recoup some cash so will sell to someone on here. Although i say recoup some cash, i just worked out the saving of doing 20k per year, and it look like i would save roughly £1750 in the first year on fuel and insurace and Tax. Plus if you factor in depresiation then its nearer £2000 saving per year, which can't be sniffed at and shows even more why i need to do this.

not bad at all.

Why dont you go for this one Ant? the daddy of all tdi engines

Thats what the bloke on Car Cruizin had the other week. He is a lord or something, not sure which one, But he said it pulls at 170mph, imagine that bad boy remapped!!think fuel economy is only 26mpg though so worse than the 1.8T

Hav a search on a autotrader, there is also a 6.0 W12 Phaeton for 30k on there, talk about bargain.
