Wild! So octopus has remote access to the car ( or, actually to the seat mother ship)
Yes, you give them your CupraConnect login. I assume they don't have a load of people with iPhones logged in watching each one and turning the lights on, locking it, sounding the horn, etc. for fun so use some kind of API to detect and control the charging.

It does definitely add another layer of things that was never needed before. Effort Vs value? Maybe. Maybe not.

The whole ev revolution is meant to be better for us, for the world, for the economy. But given that all this 'better' just costs more and more, and things work less and less and we lose more control - I don't know really :)

In the mean time, I like my 60mpg and the very tiny savings jar is somehow not empty.

It's not much effort to setup the Intelligent Octopus system, you're handheld through a test of the system to make sure it's all compatible then it just runs in the background, no further intervention required you just plug the car in as normal. It enables you to take advantage of the smart meter and 7.5p overnight electricity rate automatically (compared to 30p rate in daytime) making my fuel cost about 2.5p per mile (in EV mode).

Less effort than setting up the washing machine to run overnight in my case.

Is this another OTA update following the OUI2 update in early September?
The OUI2 update seemed to fix the random infotainment restarts for me (but still on A896) but in the last week I now get a restart almost everytime I start driving (could be worse when reversing? Or when using manual hybrid? ) Anyone else found this?

I don't have a wallbox / charger, I just use the granny charger overnight.

I plug the car in with the granny charger, Octopus detect the car starting to charge and Immediately turn it off (via the app access and api - it's done automatically ). They then setup a schedule to suit their electricity costs, typically between 23:30 and 05:30 but sometimes outside this band (the house still gets cheap electricty during this period regardless of the car charging or not). They then activate / deactivate the charging via the app/api as required to meet their schedule until the car is charged to the %age level and time I provide in the Octopus app.

So all you need to do is plug the car in, Octopus does the rest. I've never used anything on the in car infotainment system related to charging.

They need either the car or the wall charger compatiblte with Intelligent Octopus, i.e. the ablity to control one or the other, in my case it's the car as they can't control the granny charger. I don't know what they do it both car and wall charger are compatible, I assume they do a similar thing if the wall charger is compatible and the car isn't.

So in summary I guess you need the Cupra AND the subscription app, or an IO compatible wall charger.
OVO Energy have a scheme called Charge Anytime which is similar but perhaps (?) less restrictive on when you can charge . Controlled via an app which schedules the car to start/stop charging according to the time you want it to be ready. Tariff is about 1/3 of the standard OVO rate. Can use it with the "granny charger " (as do I) or with a couple of makes of wall chargers

You can still charge whenever you want to with IO, just click Bump Charge in the Octopus app and Octopus won't stop the charge and will let it charge at the day rate. I wouldn't call IO restrictive at all, you can charge anytime you want to.
