Does anyone know if the engine control unit uses the outside temp reading for it's calculations?

i think the M.A.F sensor (mass air flow) sees the intate air temp and adjustments are made from there, (some have a I.A.T (intake air temp) built in with the M.A.F.

The MAF measures air mass, which is independant of temperature.

On a turbocharged engine, the intake air temperature is measured after the intercooler by a sensor combined with the intake air pressure sensor.

On normally aspirated engines the intake air temperature sensor is often combined with the MAF or the pressure sender.

Outside air temperature is not a parameter needed by the ECU. It is used by the air conditioning system.
