Hi guys,

Kinda embarrasing but I somehow managed to over rev my e fine badly last night. Driving onto dual carriage way, estimating 70-80mph. Went to change to 4th but it wouldn't go in. Eased the pressure off the stick n tried again gently and it slipped in fine. Brought clutch up and car dived and rev limited went up to 8k.
I can only presume I some how put it in 2nd.

Car seems fine sin so far as it drives fine, pulls perfectly in each gear, no slip on clutch or anything. However it's got a tappet kinda sound now when idling cold which it's never had. Still drove fine though.

Any ideas? Is it fuxked or am I lucky but stuck with the tappet sound?

Thanks.

i doubt its done any damage, engines are pretty hardy, at most id say its put most of its load on the clutch and flywheel,

as for the ticking, are you sure its not from the charcoal canister next to the washer bottle??

I wondered if was the canister, but it seemed louder. Perhaps that was just my imagination. Surely if con rods were bent, car wouldn't run right? I was worried perhaps it could be valves, but then it'd b screwed if it was valves I think.

Im having my rods changed at the moment as 1 was bent. I had a tapping noise for a while before hand - if it is your rods get it sorted before its too late and you get a hole in the block!
Try to elimante everything else first though as rods arent cheap

i had a bent rod in a zetec engine once, ran nicely btu had a tap
when i ripped it out the rod bend was cliping the bottom of the bore!
testiment to a good crank ass' i spose

Went in a custom mapped 1.8t yesterday and that was banging off 8k between gear changes, no bent rods or problems for the owner.

no chance you've bent your rods dont worry bout that i did this with my first car the tapping is probably just you the only thing you could have doen is bent a valve but you'd receive massive drop in power. maybe check your timing as the belt could have jump a tooth causing a lumpy tick over

Sounds exactly like that Video Danny.
What confuses is me is how come it drives perfectly still?? surely this would have caused some massive issues if it was ferked?

Mine still drove fine as the piston still goes up and down but the timing is slightly out as the piston wont be returning fully - It might not be that but sounds like it could be, I would have thought when your changed down and revved high you could have created a massive amount of combustion which is what may have bent the rod.
