Has anybody ever had any bodywork or respraying on an Ovni Leon?

Some of you might remember the story I posted a while ago about being lied to about the paint work of my car being attended to when I first bought it? Well, it went into the bodyshop Monday before last to have the entire passenger side and all fittings removed, stripped back, primed and painted. The bodyshop said they would try and make everything even so it blends in nicely with all other panels. This was supposed to take a week, tops.

Well two weeks later and it's not done because the bodyshop aren't happy with the finish. As annoying as it is, I'm glad they are trying their best to do a good job, shows they are proud of their work.

Anyway, I just spoke to the garage who are organising this and they said they are having an absolute nightmare trying to match the paint. Nothing they do is working! They have used the same paint as Seat use, by the same manufacturer (some German company?) but it just doesn't match. It's got to the point now where a rep from this company is coming to see my car this afternoon to work out what the heck is going on!

Has anybody else ever had this trouble? If so, what was the solution? Or does this sound a bit fishy to you?

Rob

Sorry to hear about your car. I remeber a while ago someone posted pics of 2 onvi ibiza's together and they both looked different shades. From what I can remeber neither had any paint on them and were like that from the moment they left the factory. Hope you get it sorted. Sounds like you'll be having a full respary soon, would be cheaper for the bodyshop the amount of time they've spent on it.

Cheers guys. I do trust the bodyshop, they have been superb since they first saw the car so I have faith in their work.

It's funny really, as I remember parking next to a LC in a car park some time back and they looked like two different colours!

I wouldn't mind a full respray though, that would be a bonus :D

Total nightmare mate!

At least they are trying there best and not just giving it back to you in any state.

I no my car was meant to be back today and its now not going to be due to the bonnet being on back order :(.

Me and you are both lucky mind you, at least we have courtesy car to get about in!

I can't drive for another week or two so it's no skin off my nose, they can keep it for all that time as far as I'm concerned. Just want to make sure they do a good job!

Yep, had the same on the Lupo i own... yellow never matched... so basically resprayed the whole car...

Respray it a decent colour whilst your at it........something unique..... ;)

Hmm.... something unique.... something other than the blues, blacks, silvers, reds and greys you see in every carpark, every street and every road over the country.... hmmm.... how about....

....Yellow? ;)

Had to have a spray job done on my drivers side door. The local dealership did it. Was longer than i had expected but cant was ready in 2.5 days and the spray job is pretty good cant tell the difference

Cheers Beefy. I guess, as RobDon and Cupra@180 said, there must be slight variations in the paint with this colour. Typical that I'd end up with an oddball shade though

Sorry to hear you are having all this grief Rob. I wonder if its because the other panels have faded slightly? Either way, as everyone has said its sounds like a good body shop that actually care about their work - seems pretty rare these days! Keep us imformed of how they get on.

Have they tried colour matching to the car? My local Car shop get the paint code then come out with a book of about 20 different varients of each then match it to the right colour of the car. and if none are close they tend to blend a few together.

The reason it's in is because the front and rear quarters have faded badly. The dealer was supposed to have sorted this before I collected it, but didn't so it's in for a full job now. There are a couple of shades of yellow over the car though, for instance the bumpers and all other plastic sections (bumpers, fuel cap, spoiler etc) are all much darker than the metal sections (roof, doors, quarter panels etc). They are spraying the entire side of the car, so doors and all, trying to match the paint to the bumpers.

Now I'd expect some paint fade, but not over the plastic bumpers so quickly (car is an 03 plate). And by the sounds of it they can't match it to any of the existing paint. I expected a difference between the side and the roof, but never thought they would have so much trouble with it all!

Yeah, that's what they were supposed to be doing but they can't get a good colour match. They were going to blend it so the front bumper matched the surrounding areas... as does the rear bumper... and as does the roof. But they are seriously struggling.

I know yellow was hard to blend in but i would have thought not that difficult. Dont want to worry you but every time ive heard of storys like this most of the time its because the garage have broken something and there waiting to get the new bits or they havent started

Nah, (hopefully....) I know the dealer better than that. He knows what I'm like so if there were a problem he would come out and tell me, knowing I wont go ape.
