Lets hope so, im sure it is but always best to bare that in mind.
Hope they sort the issue out as i was hoping to get my front end sorted one day.

It's always going to be difficult to match the paint of a lightly coloured 4 year old car. Not the garages fault, nor is it yours.

For sure, but I'd not have thought it would have been such a big problem when they are doing an entire side of a car. I can imagine it would be a nightmare if they were just doing one panel.

In fact, the original idea for the work was just for doing the front arch and rear quarter panel, but the bodyshop said they couldn't promise to match the colour so they would do it all.

memory serves me right theres a difference if the code was vw or seat listed

im sure i heard someone a while back having similar problems due to the code only being listed under vw but was actually a wrong colour

at least they are making sure its done properly though

I don't believe that to be true. I've recently looked at all paint codes from many manufactureres, and they share the same codes, I.e. Nissan/Subaru - Volkswagen/Seat .... I can't see that unless one company has realeased a colour that another one hasn't.

My ovni LCR had one shade when new and six after a few years fading! plastic parts all a different colour to metal ones and rear spoiler worst of all! But just before selling it I had bonnet blown over fof chips etc and local small shop did a fantastic match but he had to ring Seat for codes!!!

What exactly do you mean by that? Manufacturers use the same paint? Or just re-used the codes?

Do you mean code 'xxx' could be a blue Nissan colour and also the same code could be a pink Ford colour?

renault had a habit of using the same number code for 2 different colours but that was more of an old to new admin error

i'd imagine the problem is more likely sorted now but i do remember the Ovni code not listed under seat in most paint suppliers but was listed under vw - and each one (3) came up with the same colour but all of them were different shades to the cars

was a good 3/4 years ago now though

No that's not what I meant.
Someone stated that the colours from VW might be different to that of Seat. But in general the codes qualify for all VAG cars to be the same.
Same with the japanese cars, there's a specific blue I was looking at which had a different name at Nissan, but used the same colour code as that of Mica Blue by Subaru.
Any clearler? I know it's late... LOL

There are different shades and varients of the same colour and code. I had a Ford In state Blue, now this colour had been used for the last 15 years or so, so there were a few main differences in the blend then loads of subtle ones, took ages to get the right version but all have the same name and code. Just because it has a name and code doenst mean its the right paint! Ask any one who has to match paint, its not just a question of fade etc it depends on what version of the colour it was in the first place

i hav a 04 plate onvi yellow curpa r and i dont think its ever had paint but wen ever i wash her it seems different shades all over the car but its just the fading i guess.i wanted 2 put a different front bumper on but changed my mind cause of the colour match, think it wud be a hard job 4 the sprayer.

Hi,

I recently had the same problem, i have an 03 plate onvi LCR. we used a presure washer on my car and taken 2 small parts of laquer off the rear bumper and also had some small marks on it, so i throught i was time to have it painted, i wish i never bothered!! They painted it the first time and it was completely out and then re-did it and got a better match but no where near the colour match of the quarter panles, the metal work has faded on the car the plastics are all bright ie. spolier, bumpers, fuel cap etc..

It puts me off having anything painted again on the car if poss.

Patrick

Sounds very similar to my problem then. Luckily for me the bodyshop aren't letting it go until they are happy with it. Secretly I'm hoping they just say sod it and spray the entire car. There must come a point where the time alone they have spent on it makes it worthwhile to just strip and spray the lot and be done with?

im sure some one else will probably have posted something similar im too lazy to look thou, had a bust up in the custurd tub with a mirca, she required to passenger doors and a blend each way on wings and roof frame. came outta of the oven in work three different colours. boss reversed it straight back in and resprayed the whole thing!

if it doesnt look faded it has !

we all thought mine was yellow till the new paint and the blends stood up and waved hello.

push for a respray it worth it

Do you work for a body shop then?

If so, can you tell me, roughly speaking (ball park figures), what the difference in cost to you the body shop is between stripping and re-painting the entire passenger side and the entire car? Is it a viable option for them?

Rob, Come with me for a drive to Portugal this year. And get your car fully re-sprayed by professionals for £300. ;)

Edit - Including paint! :D

The body shop should use a light spectrum to sort out the paint. Cant understand the problem they shouldnt be just buying paint to match.Oh well hope u get it sorted dude.

All these people with paint fading and the like, why arent you using a decent wax to protect the car in the first place?

Yeh, all cars fade but surely you shouldnt beable to see it that blatant!
