Anyone fitted or know of someone with this turbo fitted? Am curious to see what sort of bhp and torque its runs.

there are different spec of these.
one of them is on the leon i race against.
with cams, JS mani modified to run external gate, its knocking 520bhp now apparently.!
 
Mark Gunns who owns the corrado 4wd rocket ship has the owens turbo and it makes over 500bhp.
 
i reckon the owens turbo in both variants is on a par with the fp green and red,would you agree Bill? if that's the case then the latter would be the cheaper option.

except neither the red or green will fit on a JS mani.
Owens one needs some lugs removing off the head & block from what I saw of Dans A3 (RIP)

i thought this as well as my mate with a TT is thinking of going this route using the owens turbo+js mani etc.jabba told him it would be a straight fit but i don't agree like you Bill as the turbo is way too big to be underslung.
 
Does he have a build thread or anything?

So just a few bits need taking off block for it too fit.
no but he's been in redline mag and golf+ this year,also his is a topmount set up. like Bill has said many times before top mount is the only way to go.
 
what about if you can only go under slung with the turbo due to space would this be any good as i have been intrested in this befor

Dan had to also remove material off the transfer case also to squeaze in the Owens unit. It was made to fit tho... mighty close to everything.
I much prefer topmount myself.

and as has been said, it has been made to fit, but you will need to clearance some lugs on head & block from what I saw of Dans, and if 4wd the transfer case also needed some material ground off. Its very close. It has been done.
 
are the owen turbos the same kind of spec as APS turbos ???

they do 3 different hp spec turbos too

a mate has the mid spec turbo fitted on a early S3 on a js manifold with 3 inch downpipe

he had to take a few alloys lugs of his gearbox but its all fitted ready for mapping

Different but similar. I dont think Owens is this one. APS one has been around for a while I think. similar spec.. I like the segregation of turbine outlet from wastegate on the APS SR56 charger picture.

Been a while since I was last on here!

Anyway, I'm getting bit concerned that my IHI'd Ibiza is pushing too much power for the standard rods, so I'd like to get uprated rods and pistons. Whilst I'm there I may as well get it bored out to a 1.9 as it doesn't cost much to do it.

But then if I'd going to have stronger rods and pistons then I might as well think about having a bit more power. :)

So, speaking with Jabba they advised the Owen turbo.

Really what I want to know is if anyone has had a normal IHI VF34 and moved up to an Owens turbo? If so then really what I'd like to know is how the boost thresholds and lag compare?

I'd like more power but I don't really what a big increase in boost threshold or lag. I'm already finding sometimes I come out of a 2nd gear hairpin and have to wait a couple seconds before the boost comes in... and 1st gear really isn't an option.

BTW, the Owens link above no longer works. Has anyone got a newer link?

I will tell you in the next week or 2. I've gone ihi(bang) ihi(bang) Ihi (bang) ihi (bang), 18g (more power, in by 3800), blouch dom 2 (more again, but in by 4200), now owens 475 hybrid.

Caney has a very similar unit holding 1.9bar at the limiter, and moving>360g/s , and its at 1bar by 4k on a 1.9, 2 bar by 5 k.

So just to clarify, are you saying you've had several IHI's go bang on you?

I seem to remember that you lost a rod when you had little over 300bhp didn't you? That's one of the reasons I'm so concerned with mine supposedly pushing 360bhp.

I look forward to hearing how you get on with the new turbo.
