Just reading this on local news now. It's absolutely disgusting, I mean he had another 1mph to go before hitting the speed limiter.

Least they taught him a lesson... I'd never do it again if I had to catch the bus for 2 months!

It wasn't even a cupra. It was a mk2 fr. Every news outlet has had their facts wrong. Not me by the way, it's just been on the news for a while

Don't think mine would go that fast downhill on a windy day.

The fact it's an FR in the picture I suspected the facts where wrong lol
Probably 54mph in a 30 by an Ibiza FR lol

Lol

To put it In perspective, probably just as dangerous as doing 70 mph in say a ford Anglia if you think about it, which was around the era the limit was bought in.

Not saying it's right or wrong, after all the laws the law, but the whole speed limit thing needs bringing into the 21st century, I mean 70mph on roads with more than one lane going in the same direction with a central crash barrier.

70's just is an analogue speed in a digital age

I don't disagree. Cars are much more capable than they were 50 years ago but the level of human intelligence hasn't increased at the same rate, unfortunately :D

Quite agree, so along with considerable raised limit, there should be a short practice test before your allowed to exceed the original 70 limit, or better still a test if you want to use the motorway at all* , that would clear the congestion at a stroke, getting all the old duffers and middle lane hogger's off the motorways and speeding up the traffic flow no end

* obviously drivers of high performance Seat's who are members of Seat cupra net would be exempt from such a test, as we're clearly all driving gods :D

I agree with the fact that cars are alot more capable than they were when the limits were decided.
What hasn't change since then though Is the human bodies ability to survive a car accident be it inside or outside the car :/.

I get a feeling that there's some sympathy for this guy, and that maybe 154 wasn't so bad in a modern car.
Really?
What's the reaction distance at 154?
Braking distance?
He's travelling at over 70 yards per SECOND.
I have to agree with Plod - 56 days/£335 is too lenient.

Iirc he was on the A11 , yes, it's a dual carriageway , but with lots of side junctions and Bernard Matthews lookalikes in tractors.... plus our American cousins from the local airbase ambling round in left hookers... not really a road condusive to max power speeds.....
Any fool can drive fast......

I'm sure I've read on a different thread that someone has hit 186 but on a stage 1 remap that removes the limiter.
Vmax is just bragging rights anyway.

I would guess the time at which the speed was done was a big factor and the amount of people using the road at that time?!?
