Is it me or is the paint quality very poor on the Leons. I have never had a car that the paint on the bonnet has chipped so much.(The worse part of the Car) The lacquer around the chips starts flaking off, in fact i am going to ask the dealer to look at it see what they say.

I think you are right but this happens in all car makers.

It is because the new more enviriomental friendly painting processes they use today.

It is very annoying, every 2 years a respray.

it is galvanised i believe.

I think the stone chips are slightly less that usual this year, mainly as they fixed the way the gritters lay the grit, its no longer at window height, its now at wheel height!

you can get the protection kits if you are worried about it, never noticed a major issue with it though.

it's not you the paint is crap... my black magic paint appears to have been scratched by the wind!

The paint appears to be very hard and chips off very easy,it seems to chip straight back to bare metal,as if primer is not adhering to the metal surface.:( Very few paint chips on plastic components though.

noticed a few chips today - wasn't impressed - need to call in & get some touch-up before they worsen.
Hoping for a decent weekend soon, give it a thorough clean & see how bad it is...

I found that on both my recent SEATs the paint came off the bumpers very easily, probably down to them being bodge jobs at port of entry (K1).

notice new chips on the front of mine every time i wash it... the car has only covered 3K miles and its already got a small scratch in the bonnet and various chips on the bumper and leading edges... if it makes you feel any better, the Octavia RS i had a few years ago was the same.

touch up pen for the worse ones and a steady hand i think

I have just noticed a bubble starting to develop on my bonnet, so looks like I am going to have to get it resprayed

Paint is utter crap! When I get it done, I think I will be getting some clear vinyl or the stone chip protection because it marks like warm butter. Not had a car that marks like this. The golf I had previous had less marks and that had done 120K!!!!!

I have the K1 kit on mine also, and there is more primer showing than white paint on the front and the rear wings towards the bottom, but I cannot pin that one on Seat as it was done here not in the factory! [:@]

My k1 looks like it has been pebble dashed on the front bumper!

Very common. Ive already been to the body shop for a quote to have it resprayed and also to enquire about a full body respray! (not that the rest of the car is a problem, just front bumper and a few on the bonnet. Just a whacky thought to have a totally unique coloured K1. £3K price tag put me off a little though!

When I do decide to do mine will go with the stone protection film aswell on bonnet and front bumper.

Furthermore, yes paint is a bit thin and as already mention some K1's including mine have had rush paint jobs on the kit at the port before sending out.

The previous owner of mine grumbled at the dealer about the rear bumper being a slightly different shade to the rest of the car from the paperwork I have seen but alas they never gave in, probably why he sold it!!

You can see on mine a slight difference in shade but not all that noticeable

I think this applies for all cars because of the water based paint...mines all chipped from the front some big ones and some tiny clusters...I have been filling them in and wet sanding to fix it but yea can only do this for so many times until i reach the base coat lol. solutions? im thinking of wrapping it.

Like the K1 above, my front bumper has got liturally hundreds of chips in it. How much would a respray be for a front bumper?

It could be more fundamental than that.. Most people i know, have paint issues in all sort of cars. It could be the the paint standard generally has gone s**t (to keep the greenies happy or just to cut costs) or could be the roads over here arent helping.. loose grit and all sorts of crap around chipping away :S :( motorway driving especially.
