Anyone had issues with their car picking up a lot of stone chips/scratches in the paintwork?

I've had mine since Sept 14 (new) and covered around 13k miles.
I seem to have a number of scratches and paint chips, which are quite deep.

My Mrs even managed to put a scratch down to the metal recently on the door sill just by brushing against it with a shoe :(

My 10 year old Focus seemed to resist scratches so much better.

Do you find your paint is getting scratched/chipped easily?

Yeah I'd have to agree with the stone chips. I viewed a good dozen leons when I was looking for mine and basically anything over 10,000 seemed to have a fair amount of chipping.

After 2000 miles mine seems okay so far. Apart from the wedge of paint took out from my metal gate in the drive when the handbrake decided to have a kitkat

I've got a nasty stone chip about the size of a 5p coin, for some reason the whole lot shattered and went right down to the metal. Been told by seat that it's not something that is covered and everywhere has told me that I need to have the whole bonnet resprayed and the wings blended.

Not happy as everywhere has quoted £300 before VAT, seems a bit silly for a stone chip.

The wings take a battering from dents too, I'm really dissappointed with the paint from seat. They gave me the whole speach now that seat is trying to save the environment they now use water based paints rather than oil based which are much more durable.

I guess this must be the "future" getting your car painted all the time must be much better than just getting it painted the once

Done 18000 miles, nearly all motorway and only got a couple of noticeable but small chips. Much better paint on my Leon than on my previous 8g Civic...

Just got a Merc SLK 12.5k and that had its fair share stone chips.
Its not the make of car it the paint that is now used it is water based and not that good.

Skoda and Seat have a clear coat of intermediate hardness whereas Audi and VW have a harder clear coat, though my Leon or Skoda's didn't seem any better or worse than my VW. I still have some dignity so have never owned an Audi

Newer Mercs have quite hard paint and the majority of Japanese/Asian cars have a soft clear coat.

Had thought about getting touch up paint thing, but nervous it'll end up looking worse than the chip/scratch I'm trying to hide.

Tried it on an old car and wasn't pleased with result.

I've done 6k in 10 months and the chips on the bonnet are far worse than any other car I've owned (same daily roads as I've used for 15 years so don't think it's down to a change in surface etc). I also have 2 odd chunks of paint missing from side doors (only a couple of mm diameter but really obvious and in unusual places) I feel the paint quality (not finish) is poorer than my Audi and VW cars in the past. Spent last weekend applying touch up paint and like you DaFoot, the results are disappointing - going to try some gentle polishing at the weekend....

Think the red paint VAG use is more susceptible to stone chips etc than other colours. A previous FR in emocion red suffered the dreaded rash, speed blue LCR wasn't as bad despite covering similar mileage over the same roads. Current Cupra ( emocion red) is also showing chips after 9k. Work Passat is even worse ( red ) 62 plate 90k and looks like a shotgun blast has hit it!
previous Mazda 6 ( a sort of lilac colour) did 125k and didn't look as bad........

Completely agree. Red seems to show more the chips. mine is pelted with tiny ones all over the bonnet and front wings. The bumper though seems much better. Clear wrap perhaps a solution me thinks:confused:

btw, I took mine in to get the paint tested with a depth gaugh to check if the chipping was down to thin paint, and the tests show the opposite. The bonnet had the required depth and more, so did the wings and bumper, compared to other parts of the car. I put in a warranty claim with seat, knowing full well that will go nowhere... you don't get what you don't ask for...

My car has quite a few stone chips and it seems to have picked up A few scrapes lately too.

Hoping to spend sometime in August with the DA doing some paint correction as it depresses me looking at it. Silver cars definately hide a lot more than blue ones!
