Rear of side skirt finished to deflect air around the front face of the rear tyre. Well chuffed.

As plastic sheet is polyurethane (PU), used glue for sticking plumbing plastic pipes together. Sticks amazingly quickly and seems very very strong.

70mm off the deck with race tyres fitted so still room to go 30mm lower providing the whole caboodle survives 70mm first (race regs min 40mm).

Front splitter extension started. Pics soon.

When's it's first outing Rob? It'll be interesting for you to be able to compare your times if it's the same venues as last year

Got to decide pretty soon. Few more jobs yet to do, thwn get it log booked (needed now no mot). Pick trailer up wed. Then need a shakedown and a geometry check.

No excuses for not going quicker. Exhaust alone should do that. First aero mods had a big effect, next ones maybe less significant but who knows.....time will tell.

Nice work Rob!! Loving the touring car front end, looks the part!

Didn't you mention before about get special wheel straps? By any chance are they the ones that go over the actual tyre? You have two hooks in the front and then a racket hook the other side?

If so where did you get them from?? Been looking everywhere for them, found them on eBay a while ago but can't now :(

Picked trailer up today - mint. Going to be so much more fun going to events now.

Dave - there is nothing special about the over wheel straps, just a tie down with a hook at one end, an extra hook, and a ratchet. See picture on page 2 of this thread.

But if you want to buy them the same as mine, they are from PRG trailers in Crewe.

Splitter extension finished. Underside of original splitter was 120mm off the deck so wanted to bring the height of the front down to 70mm to match the side skirts. BUT....still need to get this thing on and off trailers so wanted to do this with a removable piece. This is pictured below - attached in 2 mins max with 5 countersunk socket caps sitting inside some very nice aerospace-type stainless tinnermann washers.

Needs a coat of exterior black paint tomorrow but you get the drift.

Looks VERY low now.....regs allow 40mm but 70mm looks like its going to clout something...we will see.

Idea behind this is to push as much air as possible round the car rather than allow to go under it to cause lift. Once pushed round the nose, the side skirts stop it coming back under the car. Well thats the theory

We shall see. Kind of ready to go now.....looking for a venue for a shakedown

Car successfully MSA log booked this morning by local MSA scrutineer. No issues at all other than having to put some red paint or tape on internal oil lines to show they could contain hot liquid. £36 lighter but no need for MOT any more now.

Ready to go now.

Have also ordered a set of used clio cup michelin slicks 20/61-17 (S9B compound) for messing about on trackdays. 605mm diameter with a 222mm section. Same diameter as the 16" tyres I have now and a touch narrower. If they work out well, might move to 17's and run clio tyres going forwards as they are available in hard S9 compound, soft S5 compound that could be spot on for hillclimbs, and they also do a proper race wet.

Got some nice 8x17 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 rimz for the to go on [B)]

Ta. Will sort the grill cosmetics now the real jobs are done. The darker green line on the rront edge of the hatch spoiler is duck tape, seals the slight gap in the leading edge.

The car looks absolutely epic Rob, all that hard work really has paid off

Did you sort out that vinyl wrapping in the end?contact Elliot?

You looked into any open pitlane trackdays at oulton for shake down?

Clio-cup slicks arrived - Michelin 20/61-17 in hard S9B compound. These compare with the 24/61-16 Michelin/BFG Rally Dry tyres in soft compound usually fitted. Both are recommended for a 8" rim. When measured, the diameters/circumferences are almost identical, clios being just a shade smaller, and there is 25mm difference in section 215 vs 240. But the rally tyres have the FIA-requied 17% moulded tread.....so although they are 25mm wider, they have 371,508 mm2 rubber area compared to 400,975mm2 of the narrower full slick clio tyres (7% more). Hmm.....

I have used the 15" versions of these tyres in the past and they were absolutely fantastic after 2 or 3 laps to warm up. Cheap as chips also second hand.

Looking forward to trying them out very soon.

Update:

MSA log book arrived all stamped up - good to go now.

Fitted clio slicks to 17x8 Team Dynamics ProRace wheels - looks good, and noticeably lighter than the compomotives. Gives another possibility for wheel and tyre options going forwards and as the Clios use these, there will be no shortage of availability.

Wheels look massive in diameter, especially on the back, but are pretty much exactly the same as the 16's, and not far off the 205/50/15 R888s either - the 17" rim just looks huge with very little sidewall on the tyre.

Much more room for bigger brakes now
