So, i have been offered a TDI 110 for a price that is fairly decent. Just wandering what routes can be taken to get more ommmphh out of the beast? REVO?, is there much else that can be done?

If it's a Mk.1 Leon, then the only diesel 110 BHP engine is VE (Verteiler i.e. Distributor Pump). The 1.9 TDI 90 and 110 engines are both VE: The PD's are 130 and 150.

There's a lot that can be done with the TDI 110 engine, some reckon it to be the best one to mod. Remap, bigger turbo, bigger injector nozzles and so on. 150 BHp is within reach, and I'm sure I've read of 200, though that would be fairly exotic. Don't forget to budget for better brakes. The standard clutch should be OK up to 150, but that's about the limit.

The TDI 110 comes with a five speed box as standard, and a slightly smaller clutch and flywheel than the 130/150.

Yes, plenty of torque, you will find with the right mods and tune these are awesome engines.

Just don't go silly with boost as in my experience without some stronger head bolts or head work done, these are more prone to headgasket failures.

Don't let this put you off though, I've had my Leon 2/12 years and I've had lots of mods put on including bigger turbo, smic, pipes, remap injectors and last time I had a dyno it came out to 167bhp and 275lbsft of torque!! And that was all off the standard turbo vnt15 and 0.216 injectors.

If you need any advice I and I'm sure others on hear will be willing to help.

Oh dear, now look what you've done :)

I guess that you mean "do they have lots of grunt at low revs", which, oddly enough, is the same as asking about power at low revs. Torque and Power have a fixed relationship

Torque(in lb-ft) x rpm = BHP x 5252

so you can't have power without torque, or vice versa.

See post 23 in this thread

and post 12 in this one

for a start.

The TDI 110 has good power from about 1700 rpm, the VNT variable vane turbocharger allows more boost from lower revs than a wastegate device. The TDI 90 has a wastegate turbo, all the other TDI's have VNT.

Basically yes, they have good poke lol. A straight map will wake the thing up a bit though, highly recommend it but preferably a custom one rather than generic stuff.

As said too loads of upgrades to be had, don't really need a huge amount of boost, the tdi's is all about the fuelling, that's where the power's at.
