Hi all,

having driven at 30mph speeds for 15 minutes, would you expect the engine temp to drop from 90c if you sat there idling with the engine on?

Maybe you would as it's diesel?

They'll normally stic on 90 to be honest, how far is it dropping?

It dropped from 90c to 80c, before I decided to turn the engine off because it was dropping. Although not visibly moving, the needle was dropping at a noticable speed.

I'll experiment some more when I get the chance.

Well given that TDIs never warm up when you leave them idling on a winter's morning, then it wouldn't surprise me....

I guess it will also depend on how much heat you're taking out of the coolant by using the heater inside the car.

Thats what I'm now thinking!

I'll keep an eye and see if it does anything odd!

I have this too, spoken to a few people, i work for bmw and bmw have to put an auxiliary heater in the heater box because the diesel engines are to efficient and they will cool down on idle so there is nothing wrong with your car, spoken to seat and they said the same thing
