Was under my leon yesterday and noticed that the welds are going around the cat. I've welded it up for now but I know it isn't going to last long. The car is totally standard apart from a 'generic map' as the last owner told me. I do not plan on doing any modifications to the car although I may go and get the map checked. Will I be able to decat it without any trouble?

A decat is a simple procedure on a TDI and won't bring up any warning lights like on a petrol version which would inevitably require mapping out.

Yep, just swap it over with a decat pipe. Ideally one with a fake cat casing over it just to keep a vigilant MOT guy happy on his visual inspection but not essential.
As long as the engine is healthy it should alright on the emissions as well.
I've had plenty of PD150s and several without cats and it's never been an issue.

I would be suspicious of it at that price - too good to be true.
Get a good stainless one for peace of mind

The other stainless ones are just under 200 quid don't fancy paying that much. For the price of the one I posted i think its worth a punt! If the fit is rubbish I can just always modify it

Bought the downpipe online then had a local company weld on a dummy cat

Tried phoning a few places today and no-one wants to touch it with one place wanting to view the car, cut and measure and God knows what else but the guy was quoting a day's work. I'm not sure her understood what I meant by me saying just literally weld and seal up a piece of larger diameter pipe over the outside of my decat pipe.
