Ah right lol.

Well I've emailed turbo Technics to see what they charge for a recon unit and what they'd charge to repair mine in the worst case scenario.

I'd be interested in a price from turbo technics. Thinking of buying a refurb'd unit and making it hybrid

Well I emailed Turbo Dynamics and they tell me that a standard recon unit is £529 upfront and then £144 back to me when I return the old unit.
So that works out just under £400 for a recon unit then whatever labour your garage would charge if you don't feel like doing it yourself. Local VaG specialist tells me the book time is around 4 hours.
I'm gonna be changing my oil feed line for a braided one from Darkside too while I'm at it

Thats not bad tbh. I will have a think about it as the guy who would do it tends to keep old stuff from cars and scraps it to get some money back.

Went through the order process to double check and yeah they told me right, it's £529 up front and there is £144 credited back when they recieve the old unit (120 plus vat)

Got a labour quote off a local vag garage who are saying 300 including a new oil feed and gaskets for fitting and oil and filter change including the parts needed so that's not too bad i don't think.
i'll be ordering the turbo tomorrow evening and getting it booked in the day after pay day if they can fit me in.

Ahh if I'd been informed correctly, I would have the turbo and gearbox back on tonight! They've lost some trade there then! Mine should be going back together on thursday, if I get the turbo back in that time, but if not then it will be friday night/saturday. Have a look at my RR, I'm just about to update it with pics from today!

The thing is, it would have sorted me out too, because the mate I'm doing it with is going away for two weeks on friday night, so now I have to wait for mine to be done, I've had to see him off and ask if he'll stay Friday night and give me a hand, because turbo I could do on my own, but not gearbox!! It's up, but not really turbo related lol

Yeah something as simple as a mis-quote can **** a lot of people up haha.
Gearbox swaps annoy me no end, did 2 on my Saxo but luckily you can do that yourself in a couple of hours, wouldn't want to try one on this car lol

i guess the only plus side is you know your car a lot better once you've done a major thing to it.

My Saxo was in sane haha, miss that thing so much, but i was told i need a 'grown up' kind of car.
Rebuilt everything on that car..rear beam and brake upgrades, thicker ARBs, custom black and yellow leather seats based on the ones in a Pug 106 gti, had the 1.6 16v 120bhp engine in instead of the standard 1.4 one. a lot of custom bodywork (not chavvy stuff, subtle things)
And the colour was called 'Mango' haha, i have a thing for bright coloured cars!

hybrid all day long, fit it yourself to save a few pounds and for a VAG specialist to charge 4-5 hours labour... WTF are the doing, taking the engine out or having an hour an half for dinner at your expense??? 3 hours tops.
