I think getting the instructors to do a few laps with me would be ideal.

Are you taking the Leon on???

It's a good idea to get a instructor for 20min or so. I had 1 sit in with and he was very helpful. Try prebook the instructor so he can sit in with you on your first session, if you book the instructor when you get there you might have to wait a couple of hours before he sits in with you.

I've got an iPhone but no cradle yet lol.

Is your Leon staying standard???

I used to own an evo 8 FQ myself.

Yeah you can get a cradle from Halfords for a few quid.

Yup I think the Leon will be staying standard, maybe a stage 1 remap when the warranty runs out

1. Don't forget to fill up with petrol beforehand- you might get a few more mins before you run out of fuel :)
2. Petrol can is a good idea- but make sure you have somewhere/someone to leave it (and other stuff). Don't leave it crashing about in your car!
3. You don't have to hammer it every lap- get your eye in first, the once confident alternate between a couple of laps going for it (fun!) and a couple of laps a bit slower trying to get everything perfect (lines etc)
4. Do a cooling down run before coming in- cool engine and brakes.
5. (maybe too late) brand new tyres aren't ideal, the tread depth means they heat up more. Hope for rain :) Fronts will get massive wear. Could put older ones on front newer on back if you haven't already. And expect to probably replace the old fronts after the track day unless they have quite a bit of tread to begin with.
6. Take regular breaks, speak to and watch what other people do, easier to learn from others' mistakes when you aren't hurtling around
7. Don't push it at the end of the day- if you're tired then stop. "one last lap" can be dangerously appealing! Oh, and prime yourself to drive home slowly- it'll feel like slow mo after a track day

Go flat oot! That car lost its Knockhill virginity a while ago and is capable ;).

If its still the same fluid as when I had it, you wont need to bother uprating it. I had major brake issues the first time out the brake fade and the middle pedal hitting the floor. The chocks behind the wheels when the engine is idling to cool down is worthwhile. Also blank the number plate or take it off so the insurance company spotters don't log it otherwise you may be refused insurance next time round ;)

And pull in for faster cars - folk who don't do that need shot.

That's what I thought

I race mountain bikes and find that certain brake compounds glaze over, so I can imagine a car being even worse lol

Knockhill is a good track. And a different animal in reverse! Braking from up in 5th at the end of the start finish straight going in to the hair pin is fun. Braking from 135-140mph to approx. 35 in no distance at all :)

What is the crack with crashes, I understand that if I hit a corner too fast and crash, then it's my fault but what if someone crashes into me and its their fault?

I know insurance wont cover it, so what would happen?

Would I have to kick their head in until they paid to repair my car? Or it just seen as your own risk?

Nightmare lol. How much is it, 150 quid a day rings a bell, or is it driver dependant?
LOADS of variables buddy! :(

Some annual insurance companies offer it.....Greenlight etc.

Always worth reading the small print too as some don't actually cover for much for your money!

The majority of people don't even bother though and just take it "on risk".........could always trailer your car to a quiet backlane and claim you crashed it there!;)

Seen as your own risk, you can take out trackday insurance though.

Car had the 4 piston brakes on going clockwise and 6 piston brakes anti-clockwise and LSD both times, lightweight wheels and 888's.

To be honest, that car was a absolute weapon on the track with all the bits i had done to it. I have other video clips vs 2 seater cars, monster bhp Cossies and all sorts on the track and to be honest not many things were faster unless they were loads lighter or loads more powerful.

On the clip above from inside the car, all those laps were done at 80-90% of what the car could do. Once I had done it a few times and got the confidence up, I was giving it everything. Mini Cooper S's, Integra Type R's, stripped tuned Impreza's, Stage 4+ Focus RS's etc were all easy meat.

The hint I would give about If going anti clockwise, come out of the hairpin in 3rd as you get better drive through less wheelspin - took me long enough to figure that out. When going clock wise, be careful after duffus dip when going over the crest.

^^^Be careful with that^^^

I have a clip where another :w4nk: on the track not paying attention missed my car by about the width of a ball hair. Ask G - pretty sure he was in the car at the time.
