Right so while im sitting here in the sun i decided to tackle the 20minute job of removing the secondary air pump again and sealing it properly this time as last time was a rush job :look:

When i got it out i could see gaps on the seal still, so this time i have made sure its completely covered, if this doesnt solve it then out the pump comes

If it works i shall give the silicone a quick coat of black paint, leaving it white until then so if the noise doesnt go it will be much easier to see if there is any gaps in the seal.

How did your car pass its mot with that dust cover on the drivers strut missing pew?

Why would that fail an MOT?

It was done at a seat dealer so if its meant to be a fail then i can only assume they didn't notice

Oh right, yea it's a new regulation that any split/damaged/missing dust covers are an instant failure.

It was the first mot of the day at 8am, he was probably still half asleep lol

Pressed plates are ok as long as all details are there and they reflect the light.

Mine has all that details printed on them, although they are hidden by the number plate surrounds.

I wouldn't have failed that on mot! Mist struts are exposed anyway it's not a dust cover just a cap

It covers a nut and bolt yes? Preventing any dust or debris getting in this being a dust cover lol. I'd accept that if they were designed not to be there but anything that's there from factory that's missing is now a fail. I'm not slating or moaning just merely asking if it was spotted

Ah but if he didn't have any on there then how would you know they were meant to be there seriously tho the new dust cap rule only applies to certain components like ball joints or track rod ends. Otherwise people are going to have their cars getting failed on wheel trim missing from n/s/r wheel

"Steering & suspension
The new test includes a check on the presence and correct function of the steering lock where fitted as standard.

Missing, or split/damaged dust covers on steering and suspension ball-joints will result in failure if they will allow dirt to enter the joint.

Power steering fluid level must be above the minimum level indicated on the reservoir.

Not necessarily mate. A failiire now is the dust covers on the rear shocks too and that's not a ball joint. And so is it a fail if you've cut the bump stops out of your Coilovers like a lot have.

It only applies to ball joints and steering joints I.e track rod ends. Rear shock covers don't come into it, cutting away bump stops would probably come under rear shock absorber modified and seriously weakened. I am a tester have been for like 8 years
