When I pair my phone (iPhone 5) with my car, I can view all of my contacts manually in the phonebook menu through the head unit, and also using the steering wheel controls to view the numbers on the dash display, however, whenever I try to use the voice control it tells me that the phonebook is empty, does anyone know how to solve this?

I think k it's the software of the unit it's not able to talk fully with Apple software. I'm sure in the handbook if you have one it tells you what it's capable of with your phone, if not the handbook I can't remember where I've read it sorry.

You have to program the voice dialing separately as that part is part of the bluetooth, not the phone.

The instructions are in the stereo manual on how to do it. it's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

If you don;t have the manual, let me know and I'll type out the steps for you (with the usual caveat that it might not work).

I will give it a try, its bizarre its almost as if there are two Phonebooks, one which is my contacts list on the phone, the other which seems to be manually entered contacts on to a different list.

NeilMck is spot on. You have to assign a verbal command (name) to the relevant phone numbers so the car can link your voice to the number.
Pain in the arse to do but worth it for the ease of use whilst driving. Take a brew out with you if you have a few to load.
