strange... if i check my plate with HPICHECK it tells me that;

Vehicle Details1 for registration number P*** XGJ

Make Year of manufacture Model Engine size(CC)
SEAT 1997 IBIZA GTI 16V CUPRA SPORT 1984

and mine have GTi 16V on them

yours is the same as mine - my car is a 16v cupra sport

its badged as a gti as the very earlier ones didnt hava a cupra sport sticker on the back

the cupra sport is the same as the equivalent gti models engine wise the only differences are that the cupra sport doesnt have air con and/or sunroof and has 30% thinner soundproofing which makes it lighter - they are the only main difference i know of, and insurance companies dont always get it right when you put the plate in - tesco reckoned mine was an 8v - they wanted another £4 to change it to 16v
your logbook is a better indication - it will say Ibiza 16v Gti Cupra Sport - the cupra is stil a gti - just technically more rally like so it earnt the cupra branding

tho if im wrong someone correct me - i am female and i can be told im wrong

my cupra sport has the same seats as you and has a 16v gti badge on the back
so our cars are pretty much identical as mine is the same blue as yours
