After months of searching for the right car I've finally found a Cupra TDI which I shall be picking up Saturday (a 350 mile round trip!! but will be so worth it.)

I'm obviously already looking at getting in mapped and was wondering if anyone uprated their clutch before a stage 1 or is the standard capable of handling it? It's only done 16,000 miles so unless the 1st owner was a clutch rider it should be pretty sound.

Many thanks

Not got any pics yet, it's "Track Grey" as on site but I think that's Zenith Grey same as my FS. It's '56 plate so amazing to have only 16,000 miles (hope it's genuine:()

What did you find the biggest improvement? Is the handling/driving position much different?

Standard clutch will be fine from my experience. Remapped mine after I had done 6k. Now sitting at 46k on original clutch and no sign of any slippage.

enjoy it mate, I pick up my FR tdi on Wed and was thinking re map but not sure due to warranty issues as it has SEAT warranty til March 2011:confused: Also wondered about the clutch too the car has only done 9000 miles so again should healthy. thinking of getting my vrs done too but the skoda forum say slipping clutch can be a problem after remap on standard vrs clutch.

The Custom Code map can be turned off (invisible) to Seat with a Laptop and Vagcom software. Dealer would never know. This is on the PD engine, not sure about any other engine remap. Takes 10 seconds to do.

It's now mine!!!

Quick update, I've picked up the Cupra and it's more than I'd hoped for :D. The 200 mile trip home went so fast.... and so did I :p I'll post some pics on here tomorrow and perhaps get it booked in for stage 1 for a couple of months time once I'm used to it as it's so different to drive than a petrol.

Also is the 'spare wheel' in the car supposed to be a brand new alloy and tire or have I had a result as the dealer didn't seem to notice it until I found it!

the things i found different was not the handling/driving position, it was the fact it goes like a train and the MPG are a hell of alot better :D and the clutch seem s to be abit more heavy.

the spare wheel should be a alloy because normal spare wheel would'nt fit over the front callipers, as what borderboy has said :D

if you do get it remapped (or should i say when ;) your standard clutch should be fine up to 300lb/ft of torque

i had my cupra tdi remapped the standard clutch which had only done 15000 miles when remapped. was fine for about a mouth and then it started slipping like mad, i couldnt boot it with traction control off or i wouldn't go anywhere the clutch slipped that much. i got a uprated sachs clutch fitted and its fine now.

That's what I was afraid of..... Did you get it mapped to over 300lbs of torque?

You need to get a map that doesn't spike too high too early or you will get clutch slip.

From what I have read anyone who has got a Custom Code map (like myself) have not had any issues as they create the map to try and prevent this happening.

On the other hand it could also be down to driving style.

As I live out in the countryside my car gets plenty of stick most days and after 40K miles on the remap done after only 6k on the clock its not a problem. Running 195bhp/295lbs

If my clutch did start to go now I would be happy its done a hard 40k! However its fine :)
