regards leigh

have a look for the 'show off your mk2' thread, loads of cars to take inspiration from in there. It'll be on the first couple of pages of this forum section :)

thanks for the info guys! some very nicer mk2's on here

i thort ill post in here to save forum space i have defo set my eyes on the 2.0 gti

so few qustions if you dont mind

1.would porshe rimes fit as no this is what people do to golfs?
2.if i was to rebuild the engine dropping in a piper cam, 4-2-1 manifold, slight head work and port and polish, cda filter with caf, modified thorrtle body i head people do(could somebody shead some light?) 100 cell cat and then re-map to suit the obv what kind of power ruffly do you think it would be pushing
3.just to check on the mk2 you can fit after market headunit easy
4.what kind of problems should i look out for as hopfully plan on starting to look for one in the new year

cheers guys thanks for any info

1. Yes with adaptors
2. Meant to be 115 standard, but some have been RR'd at 125. Haven't heard about modified throttle bodies.... unless you mean putting ITB's on? Remaps not really available for these engines in the same sense as you see on more modern engines, smaller gains usually because there's less potential power (no turbo).
3. Yes easy
4. look in the 'you know you have a mk2 when.....' thread.

o right so whould i be looking in to going in to after marker ecu? sorry about the confuson on throttle body read on the spec at bottom of sombodys listing about a diffrent tb and reading what you said about the maping the maping would there to allow for the new parts not mapping for power like you do with a turbo model was hoping to get around the 150 mark sam as the 16v then thinking bout either bolting a supercharger on which i seen on here or after that il move over to a cupra r

thanks for ya info mate :)

i'm going to pee on Crezz's chips here, in every day driving the 8v is just the same as a 16v (I've owned both) except its more reliable and more economical and 5 insurance groups lower!

Average 8v puts about 125bhp out despite what book figures suggest, whereas a 16v is about 155bhp. 8v's can push out a lot of bhp, theres a 220bhp one on here thats running a nitrous mix. Supercharging with an Eaton or similar would see around 170-180bhp.

If your going to do any major engine work new engine management is the way to go for sure as it will make the best from it, however custom code, jabba and revo do new chips for the existing ECU to suit new components.

If you want as much power as you can get out of the box and can live with a screaming engine and a less comfortable drive, get the 16v it won't dissapoint. If your using it as a daily and want something that will be more reliable and nearly as good with room for improvement go for an 8v.

There are quite a few on here that have NA engine mods, so search for these users:

Rocket Ronnie (nitrous)
F2Stu (track slag)
jcs356 (track slag)
Crezz (not really modded but he knows about 16v heart ache)
Dinky Dave (i think this is a 16v with cams)
m0rk (he probably has the best collective MK2 knowledge)
Cupra Kid (i know about 16v heartache)

No doubt i've missed some.

If it was as reliable and as easy to drive i'd have a 16v, but the gear change and other little things ruined it for me especially as i do 50miles a day.

If it was for a toy, then i would still have it now yes ;)

yeah can deff see where your coming from...im tempted with another abf in the caddy but may go for the agg but i know nothing about them...

you can't go wrong with a decent 8v! (say's the man that's just sold an 8v and bought a 16v!!) i had mine for about a year and did 11k trouble free miles in it, it went a heck of a lot quicker without the interior in (hint hint) and the AGG engine is damn near unbreakeable. mine had just done 140k miles when i sold it, and despite shearing a camshaft (don't ask!) it never once went wrong. no taps/rattles/smoke and it never needed topping up with oil. couple that with a 38 mpg (40 with no back seats) on the motorway and your onto a winner. very quick off the line too!

im thinking im going to go anti everything with caddy...instead of lowering it...raise it up! lame as deisel engine in it...jobs a good'n........saying that...thats what it is at its current state! lol

Since when did these map the 8v or 16v lumps? News to me :)

i have "modded throttle body" at the bottom of my sig. all i did was remove any obtrusions (like screw heads ect) from the inside, round of the leading edge of the butterfly (NOT "knife edged"!!) and polished it right up with a dremel. it improved throttle response and thengine felt a bit more willing to rev. (8v) i wouldn't say it actually made more bhp though.
