Yes mate it should have acted like that . Do you have an air line handy ? Or is it at the house ?

At the house mate. Reckon if we crank it over by hand it will allow the valve to open up enough to pull the majority of the bag out? If we do as you say and pull the fuel relay and crank it over (presumably on the starter) with no exhaust manifold will it cause any damage. I'm assuming the engine won't even start at there will be no back pressure? Sorry I'm it entirely engine savvy

I think ud need to crank it mate to get enough pressure to force any stubborn bits out . Going by hand mate would be in slow motion to a proper compression stroke if ya get me chum . Try by hand first if ya have the chance mate

Yeah we were only going to crank it by hand to see how much bag we could get out. But as for the bit you're saying about removing the turbo etc and trying to crank it over, would that cause any damage?

Probably not.

It's worth mentioning that Tesco bags are biodegradable.

Get a couple more and see if you can find something that accelerates the process, try oil, WD40, thinners (be careful), Diesel.
If you get lucky you could just soak the bag overnight and turn it to a slop - then just clean it up with a rag.

Yeah hoping not to have to take the head off though, will wait and see. Haven't had a chance to look with the weather being as bad as it is.

Okay, cheers. Hopefully I'll get it sorted. I'll just undo the manifold and support it that way I don't have to mess around too much with the turbo. The engine won't actually start running or will it?

Wow someone has got to say it how bloody stupid can you be. Moving the car 2ft and you didn't think to push the car.
Sorry to be rude I hope you can sort it easily and cheaply.

What uphill? I know it was stupid, pretty sure I made that clear enough myself, but like you said, someone has to say it.

I would just let it burn itself off mate, there is a lot more carbon and deposits in the bore than the little bit of bag you have stuck in there lol. Its all part of the fun with the driveway mechanics!

Ah it's gone the garage now, engine didn't turn by hand, got stiff at one point so the bag has possible caused an inlet valve to get stuck open. I will see what they say

How did this turn out mate?

Not too bad. Head had to be taken off but luckily not too much damage, however when it was off they noticed the cams were worn (seems to be common) so they had to be replaced which was a lot of money. Oh well.
