Plastic flap above rear view mirror

Has anyone noticed the small plastic flap attached to the roof liner directly above the rear view mirror that folds down? What's it for? Noticed it whilst is was cleaning the inside of the window screen tonight.

Nothing in the owners manual about it.

Our old passat had this, it acts as a sun visor so not blinded by the sun when looking up to the mirror

when you lower it, it ads another 50 bhp to the engine just kidding sun visor it is... cheers

It amazes me the amount of friends who have vw/Audi and never knew about this even after years of ownership...it took me ages to discover it on an old mk4 golf...
